:( :(
i own a 150 gallon fishtank. I came home today, and I noticed it was unusually loud, which is a result of the 10+ gallon evaporation that takes place weekly. I didnt think much of it, except it wasnt that loud yesterday, but oh welll. I sat down beside it on the couch to do something and I realized it was leaking. I opened the doors below, and it was flooded, and the surge protector was on fire and sparking.. I unplugged it from the wall. I took the syphon cleaner and hooked it up to the sink, and started draining the tank, and took a steam cleaner ad started sucking the 8 inch deep water out from under the tank. I put the fish in two different things.. a storage tub and a cooler., and hooked a filter up to each, (I had 3, its a huge tank) so they wont die. I had a 600 gallon per hour canister filter under the tank, that is now a loss, along with other small things.
I'm out:
$2000 fish tank
$600 canister filter
an easy 2000 to replace my carpet
I wonder if homeowners insurance will cover this.
The worst part? If I had went to the gym to work out like every single thursday in the past 4 months, my husband would have been caught in a fire from the surge protecter while he was asleep and didnt know the difference. That's the thing that scares the hell out of me the most.
today was the last day of work beforemy 1 1/2 weeks vacation. What a freaking start.
Im sorry to hear about what happened!
Im not sure about the insurance but I like others would sure as heck try it. Im so glad that you didn't go to the gym.. its funny how those little angels keep us pointed in the right direction isnt it?? Hang in there... I know its a pain in the hiney but just look at what could have happened and be thankful you were there!! I hope all works out with the insurance company for you!!!
Good Luck!!!

Oh no, Kay I am so thankful you went home instead of the gym. I am sorry that this is going to be such an expensive ordeal for you, though. Things can be replaced (eventually) people cannot and that is what is important. I am sorry that this started your vacation, I truly hope the rest of your time off is much more enjoyable. Personally, I think your hubby owes you a nice evening out somewhere since you "singlehandly, saved his life"......(sorry couldn't resist) Hugs and prayers, Theresa
I'm so sorry to hear about your fish tank. I've had a little experience with homeowners insurance. I believe that they may cover the fish tank and filter but as far as your carpet, they may consider that flood damage. Unless you have flood coverage, they may not cover that portion. Have you tried a shop vac to get the water up and put a utility fan on the carpet to dry it out? You might be able to salvage your carpet relatively cheep. We had damage from Frances and they wouldn't cover the damage to our carpet. We have a carpet cleaner and sucked up the water. Once it dried we used some mildew cleaner to kill any mildew that might have set in. We had a whitish carpet so the color wasn't really affected. Hope you get some help with your insurance. Good luck!
