I am starting my journey to the losing side...hopefully...and I keep hearing about having to write a letter to your insurance...what type of letter? I am getting my tests done with the lungs / heart, still have to get a nutritionist/dietitician which would really help since my dear hubby is diabetic...I have talked with my PCP about this and all he says is "just go see the surgeon and go from there".... so what do I have to put in this letter to my insurance? I have read everything that I can get my hands on and have joined a support group...so any help that you can give will be most appreciated...I want to be a "loser" too.....

Most insurance companies want a letter of medical necessity from your PCP. I talked to my surgeon about all the stuff I needed before I went to him and had my PCP get it all ready first. Just give your surgeon's office a call and let them tell you what you'll need. I also needed copies of five years worth of my medical records. \ Good luck to you!! Ann in Duluth

Hi Cheryl I am not sure if teh letter I wrote went to insurance or my doctor. It was stating that I knew what the surgery intailed. How it was going to be done. The risks of not having it verses having it done. The chances of problems occuring. Just stuff like that. I was given an outline with the things that needed to be included. I hope this helps We are all here for you. Hugs, Debra =^..^=

I never had to write a letter. Every doctor I was required to see sent a letter to the surgeon and he put them together and mailed for approval. I didn't write anything. Check with your surgeon for how its done there. I don't think many patients write their own letters.
