my cousin is hiv+ and weighs close to 400 pounds she wants to have the surgery and can't find a doctor i just recently had it done with dr. champion but he won't take her any ideas help!!!!

I have a friend who is an O.R. nurse, and says that medically, they have to treat ALL patients as if they were HIV+. She does not know WHY she wouldn't be able to have the surgery...she says keep looking! -Tami

I agree with Tami, that nowadays every patient is treated as if they are Hiv+...Having said that, if your cousin has other health issues releated to her Hiv status, that could have a negative effect on her outcome if she had surgery might be the reason some doctors are saying no. This surgery is risky enough anyway, and to put it bluntly, there are some doctors out there, they don't want a death on there statistics..Has she tried looking outside of Georgia? I had my surgery done in Ohio, by Bariatric Treatment Centers in Columbus..They have since changed their name to Batrix, I know that they have several facilities in several states, and Bariatric Surgery is all that they do, so maybe they can help.. We have not looked outside of georgia and other then having HIV she is in perfect health. when she was 21 she was raped and became pregnant from it and contracted HIV. I hope we are able to find someone. thanks for the support
