I'm getting the pre-op nerves!

I thought I would be able to handle the pre-op nerves without any major problems. I'm mentally prepared and ready to get this surgery over with so I can start dealing with the post-op fun. But here I am 8 days before surgery and starting to get the heebe jeebies. I know all the risks and realize that the the odds of a complication are low but I had to read the memorial pages on the site like all other pre-ops. After that I went and bought software today to write my will and medical power of attorney. I just want this weekend to be over so I can get back to work and put this surgery out of my mind for a few days. I can deal with other peoples problems and not think about my own. Seems liike everything I have done this weekend has been in preparation for Oct. 26th and that is not helping the nerves. denise

Denise, I was the same way. I made my peace with everyone I knew. I gave me peace of mind to know everything was taken care of. I think all of us have a few fears going in. But you will soon be on the losing side and feeling better. If you need someone to talk to during the night, just call me. I will be up all night. I very seldom sleep. I will send you an email with my number. Hugs and God Bless, Debra

Hi Denise, I know what you mean. My surgery is same day as yours, and I didn't get really scared until today. I finnished all my cards that will be given to all my family the day of my surgery. My husband will give them to my brothers, sisters, and other family members, as soon as I am taken to surgery. I cried while I wrote them, and tried to be positive, but let them know that I have no regrets. I do have a living will, so I know my wishes will be obeyed. I'm like you, just trying to stay busy and not think of it. I am excited, but am very concerened for my family. Take care, and good luck....Jenni

I can relate. I've done the will and the living will but I think I will skip on the letters to the family members. If I have any deep thoughts to share with my family I will have to keep them to myself. If I wrote "the letters" to my family before surgery, my mother would beat the #$*% out of me when I woke up for making her cry. According to my mother we are only to have happy thoughts! good luck with your surgery! denise

Yep, you've got the heebe jeebies. THIS IS NORMAL. And the fact that you wrote your will and MPOA shows maturity and consideration. Hope you have a busy week, Marrilee open RNY 9/30/04 Dr Appel

I know how you feel. You are doing all the right things to prepare yourself. I spend most of the last few weeks in prayer about the surgery. I never really came to peace with it until I was at the hospital. Hang on gal, you'll be on the other side soon. Just know that you have one of the best, if not the best surgeon in the world. Hang in there. Hugs, Tonya

You could come to our 75Wings support group Tuesday night. Date: Tuesday, October 19, 2004 Time: 6:30PM - 8:30PM EDT (GMT-04:00) We're a small group so we get a lot of personal chat time. We meet at the Methodist church at the corner of the South 120 and Powers Ferry Rd. It's open to all WLS patients regardless of which type of surgery or surgeon you have. You'd be welcome!

Denise, we would be MORE worried about you if you weren't nervous! It is a very nerve-wracking time for you... A couple of days before surgery, I was overwhelmed by the number of wellwishers, in town and out, that suddenly started calling me and checking in on me...It gave me a sense of peace, and my nerves settled until I was literally being rolled into the operating room...by the time I started getting nervous again, I was out cold! LOL! You will do great! Let us know if we can help in any way! -Tami
