I'm finally home!
Hi guys!
First off, thank you THANK YOU for all your phone calls and cards and concern during my stay at the hospital.
My surgery went fine. No problems with that it seems. I felt really good Wednesday night but seemed to go downhill Thursday and Friday. The first concern was that I was dehydrated. I know they ran 5 bags of fluids in me really fast (like the whole bag in 1 hour) over those 2 days. I have no clue how many bags they truly gave me. It was a bunch! My blood pressure was low all that time. At one point it like 77/44 and stayed in that neighborhood for a while. So needless to say, they pushed the fluids to get me over the dehydration hump. But then I developed a fever and could not urinate. This led to more tests, more needles...you guys know the drill. It appears I had developed a UTI during all of this too. Honestly, I don't remember much about Friday. I slept most of the day and just ached all over. I do remember telling Dr. Duncan that I felt "Crappy". LOL
Anyway, I'm home now. I'm still sore but Loretab is my friend. I was able to eat about 4 Tablespoons of grits today and they sat well with me. I still don't feel like dancing but I will...one day.
I do have something weird going on though...I am so swollen from all the fuilds. Guys, I weighed before I left the hosptial and have GAINED 20 pounds. I can't even make a fist because my fingers are so big. Did anybody have anything like this happen to you? I know the weight will go away when the fluid does...but isn't it a heckuva note to have WLS and gain that much weight. LOL
I felt your support and your love and I appreciate all the members of the Georgia Board. You guys are awesome!!
Now...back to come Loretab and to try to find a comfy spot to sleep.
Robin
P.S. To my Secret Pal -- YOU ROCK! I love the blanket and the cow. I have already used the blanket since I've been home and the cow sits next to my recliner...to make me smile! You did an awesome job, SP, of making me happier today. Thank you so much!

Girl... I gained 10 pounds from the hospital, and I wasn't pumped full of fluids like you were...so yes.. I can relate with that.... Doesn't it suck when you get on the scale, looking for a reduction, and the weight GOES UP!??? Phooey!!!
Let me know if I can do ANYTHING for you... I am so glad to see you home!!

Hi Robin,
I am glad you did well with your surgery. I will be having surgery with Dr Duncan on Oct. 25 and I am a teacher. How long are you planning on talking off from school? What grade do you teach? I've asked for a week, however, I am leaving lesson plans for two weeks. When you feel up to it please email me how you are doing. Its nice to know someone that is experiencing just before me.
Wanna Be A Loser Too,
Charlene
Charlene,
I am taking 4 weeks off from school for a couple of reasons. Number 1, I heard several people say that although they felt ok at a 2 weeks out, they still felt weak. I didn't want to pu**** I had plenty of leave and saw no reason to take it.
Secondly, I work part time as a teacher (2 high school classes in the morning) and I work the other half day as a Technology support specialist. I knew I couldn't be lifting computers and monitors that quickly after surgery.
Dr. Duncan's Physician's Assistant told me they did not release their patients to go back to wor****il the 2 week check up.
Since I did have some complications, I am so glad that I have allowed myself the 4 weeks. There is no way in the world I would be up to going back to work in a 2 weeks. Heck, it takes all the energy I have to walk from the sofa to the bathroom.
Good luck with your journey. This board is so awesome for their support and encouragement. Wrap yourself in their support and it truly makes the tough parts easier.
Robin
