had a great evening and sleep great last night , woke up this morning feeling great , then i ate some breakfast a lil pudding and a lil apple sauce and took my daily pills. All was good for about an hour then i got the worst gas pain, it feels like a huge bubbIe in your chest that won't go away , I took some childrens gas medicine , and went and walked some ,,, when i returned i felt i had to have a bowel movement (and i did , which is my first one since surgery ), so i thought that was it . but it got worse after that , then i had cold sweats and was a lil nasaua with it . so i asked my wife to call someone , The support group leader for Dr. Burrowes ,Which by the way i thought was wierd cause i hadn't heard from any support member at all the whole time i was in the hospital . So when my wife got a hold of her she said she didn't even know i was in for surgery ,, she was VERY sorry , and had info for us , which we sure could have used before we came home ,, She is suppose to call us back with more this evening . She told us not to take all my pills i was normally taken , but the nurse at the hospital said we should . anyway i know things will workout it is just a lil scarey not knowing . Thanks for listening Travis

Hey, Travis. I am very sorry to hear about your day. It will get better believe me. Usually someone from the support group will come by to see you and give instructions and call you everyday. I had those same problems with a bp medicine after surgery. I stopped taking it for awhile. I hope you feel better, hang in there. Serita July,12 2004 Open RNy Dr. Burrowes

I am so glad you are home. I was going to call the hospital to check on you, but figured I might be bothering you instead. My prayers were with you either way. If you need anything just yell. What kind of meds did you take? Tiny pouchs don't like meds. Just ask mine! Praying you get feeling better. Hugs, Debra

Hey Travis, Please be careful with taking any meds. You should crush them if you must take them. Don't take any NSAIDs like Motrin, Celebrex, Naprosyn, etc. They are really rough on a new pouch. It will get easier, trust me. But I still have to break my meds in small pieces and I am three months out. Hope you are feeling better soon. Angela

Travis, Sorry your pouch isn't happy. I still have a difficult time with applesauce, so I try to stay away from high pectin stuff. The gas is painful, but you have to walk, walk and walk it off. My surgeon has us use the Gas-X chewable and it works great. Meds are a problem. Did you clear all your meds through your surgeons office to make sure that they are okay to take? There is no easy way to take them. I tried using a pill crusher and it just wasn't working well. My hubby picked up a mortar and pestle from a kitchen gadget shop so now I crush my meds to a fine powder. My bp pill is a capsule, so I have to open and empty that. Then I mix them with a little juice and take it and wa**** down with a little more juice. It does taste bad, and I do a little dance around the kitchen for a minute or two, but it is only twice a day. If nothing else, I do get a little exercise! I hope you get to feeling better soon. Travis, I agree with crushing your meds, or at least using a pill cutter. I remember the gas pain, it's the worst. Since you had your first bowel movement, they should be getting better every day. A heating pad on my stomach also worked pretty good for me. Hope you get to feeling better soon. Take Care Cathy Martin

I am sorry to hear about your rough day today. My husband had surgery on the 8th and we have not had any support contact either. Fortunately, we had our own support group with our family. My mother and sister came from Florida and stayed with us for a week and a half. Was your surgery at Atl Medical? If so, most of the nurses there are not very well informed. My husband was in icu the 1st day and they mistakenly took him off fluids for 16 hours which caused him to dehydrate. When he was moved to the 8th floor, the nurse there was very confused and spoke very little english. I had to stay up all night to make sure he was getting the right meds at the right times. He started having nose bleeds because they had him on oxygen without humidity for almost 2 days. Then Dr. Burrowes changed the orders from full liquids to clear liquids but they continued bringing the full liquid diet and arguing with me about what the dr. ordered. There were a couple of good nurses but for anyone pre-op stay informed and if at all possible get your instructions directly from the doctor. Travis, good luck with your recovery! Ask lots of questions and take care!

OK, i waited 3 hours and was told to drink (REal slow ) some warm liquid , to help disolve all the pills that are seemingly lodged in my pouch , idrink 2 oz of hot chichen broth and 30 minutes later was throwing it up , BAD FEELING ,,,, But as soon as i threw up i felt better , i then called Joys and she said she wanted to page the DR , The Dr called me and i explained my day and he has said the meds this morning were the problem and now that i have thrown up several times , my pouch is sensitive and in spasms , and the opening may be swollen a lil smaller maken it harder to take in anything . So we are going to hold off on anything til tommorrow and let things calm down ,,, The Dr said i should have never been told by the nurse at the hospital to take my pills .. LIVE an LEarn HUH ?... I want everyone to know that i have complete trust and DR Burrowes and Joys in the support group i just think there has been a comunication break down somewhere between the drs office to the support group ( cause the surpport group never knew i was there ) and between the hospital relaying the right info to the patient .I have a positive outlook ,, and i feel ok now ,, and tommorrow will be a better day Thanks fot listening again Travis PS I LOVE my wife ,,,, what a trooper
