***Surgeon Problems****
I had a problem with my surgeon today and need an opinion. Both my son and I had surgery with Videoscopic in Marietta on May 13th. As usual with most doctors, we overpaid our accounts by almost $2500.00. In July doctor received payment for Andrew of $1500.00 I called his insurance clerk and explained to her that he was not working due to his surgery and was looking for a job. We also owed the hospital $1500 and really needed the $1500 refund asap. This was July 20th. She explained the whole process and told us we would receive check on SEPT. 15th. Slow I said but what can I do. Waited until Sept. 20th - still no check. I was very upset by this time because they also received a payment from Blue Cross and now they owed me $2500.00. We also still owed one bill to Emory Dunwoody Hospital and they wanted their payment or they would turn over for collection. This would effect my credit. What made me mad was that the doctors want all their money up front before surgery, but when they owe a patient money - they take their time to pay. This was not a small amount to me so I sent a fax to their office. Basically I told them the same thing I explained and said that if they did send me a check as they stated they did, please accept my gratitude and send me my next refund asap because I really needed. I also told them that if they kept putting me off I would complain to the Better Business Bureau and the State of Georgia Board of Medical Examiners. Well I received two certified letters today - one for Andrew and one for yours truly stating that because there is a lack of trust between us and the surgeon - we are being released from any aftercare from this doctors office and basically we were on our own!!!! They would honor us with any medical emergencies for thirty days and after that we had to follow up with our own doctors because this doctor would not see us. I am thrilled to have my refunds now and I think the doctors office over reacted big time. Since this doctor is out of town I am not too worried about being rejected. The surgeon who signed the letter is however not the one who performed surgery on us - it was his associate who did. Terrible isn't this???
Oh my god. I've never ever heard of him doing this. So I guess they're saying since you were going to call BBB they couldnt trust you? I guess on one hand I can understand that, but that's severely overreactiing. maybe when Dr W gets back, he can fix things. I dont know if I'm owed anything.. I havent checked. Maybe I should call and see. Sorry about this!!
I can't believe they did that to you! They were at fault for dragging their feet. Must be hard for the Dr to understand that 1500.00 makes a big difference to most people! I'm so sorry that you had to go through that ordeal. Would you consider speaking to your surgeon to try to clear it up?
Hugs,
Tonya
You know what I'd do? I would go ahead and file a complaint with the Medical Examiners board. That is totally unacceptable. If that's the level of service they provide, you'd probably be better off finding someone else anyway. Who knows if they would have ever supported you if you had issues. I hate that for you, but people too often treat their surgeons like gods and this is just another episode to show that not only are they human, a lot of times they're a**holes!
