Hi All, I'm preop and trying desperately to find a protein drink that I like...most I've tried have been sickeningly sweet. I do like the atkins and slimfast protein drinks that are premixed....but I'm worried they are not enough protein initially. I've been to life grocery and to GNC but I've been disappointed with the selection and hardly any samples available....any ideas on where I can go to get more selection??? Thanks! Chris

hey Chris! Your tastes are likely to change after surgery, or so I have been told by many post-ops. I ordered one serving samples off the internet. Try these sites: bariatriceating.com, WLSupplies.com, txsupplies.com (?), and vitalady.com. I found this listed under someone's profile on the GA board. These sites have lots of flavors to choose from. Good luck! Hugs, Ally T-36 hours to surgery!

Hey Ally, I just had my open RNY with Dr Appel on 9/30 and I live in Kennesaw. You are soooo close to surgery. How have you been doing on the 2-day liquid diet? The first evening was the pits but the second wasn't bad at all for me. And his bowel prep is so easy compared to those who have to take the Fleet Phospho-soda that I said I'd do liquids for 4 days (just teasing).:-} I hope you've got a good support system. I'm single and unfortunately several friends have been too sick to help and I don't have family that is able to help. That's been the biggest problem. Best Wishes for a successful surgery and smooth recovery, Marrilee PS. And don't forget to tell the OR nurse to put something under your knees.

Hey Marrilee, I came and visited you and Murbee in the hospital last week. Your were on some nice drugs, so I doubt you remember. I have been sick to my stomach since starting the liquid diet. I began hurling this morning. I talked to Darlene at the office and stopped the broth. I feel a lot better now and I can keep the neomycin and MOM down. I think it was the broth making me ill. I felt horrible yesterday. I have been eating shaved ice from my snowcone maker since I got sick this morning. It seems to help. Thanks for the well wishes, Ally

Hey Ally, I'm sorry I didn't connect your visit with your name and your post. I do remember a visit from 3 sweet angels but didn't know their names. Wow! I'm sorry the prep diet is so tough. You'll be so ready for the surgery just so they'll knock you out that you won't get nervous. Have you got s/f popsicles (NOT red)? Do they help? Sending extra angels to watch over you Marrilee

I am currently living off of s/f orange popsicles, orange jello, ginger ale, and shaved ice. I am scared to touch broth or even strained chicken noodle soup. I do not want to start again! Thanks for the well wishes. Hugs, Ally

Hey Acworth, I'm in Kennesaw, It is hard to find something you like because your taste will change after surgery. I loved the Atkins ready-to-drink Chocolate Royal drink B4S (before surgery). I'd add an equal amount of skim milk to it thus (if thus'ing is legal this early in the morning) doubleing the volume, increasing the protein for not too many more calories. It was like a liquid Hersery's bar. Heaven I went to one of the online websites (http://store.bariatriceating.com/sazecais.html) and bought 40 different samples. Mainly, so far, a waste of money but you might be different. It was a good way to try lots of samples though. My tastes will continue to change as I recover (I had my open RNY on 9/30/04) so I'll try one sample packet if I like it wonderful if not, down the drain & try something else. I wish I'd bought some plain unflavored protein. Then I could add a little to my soups/broths to up the protein. Here's another online site: http://www.enjoyhealth.com/index.htm Marrilee, open RNY, 9/30/04

I've only tried two...haha...but luckily I really LIKE the Carbsolution chocolate. It's like a heavy chocolate milk, but I have mine over several ice cubes. It's 23 grams I think, not as much as some...but at least palatable. GNC has a "aqua blue" colored, clear drink, that I sampled at a support meeting that wasn't too bad. Probably a berry flavor. It had 40 grams! I haven't been by the store to get me one yet, but FYI. Good luck!

valleynutrition.com lets you order samples for about $1.50 each and they have a big selection of flavors. You can later order a big thing of one you like, or additional samples. I haven't tried them yet 'cause I'm okay with the ones I'm using, but I did look the other night. Hope this helps. Ann in Duluth
