UPDATE ON BCBS BLUECHOICE HMO

I just received my certificate booklet from bcbc bluechoice health plan and the insurance will cover wls. "Pre-certification is required, and coverage is only provided for gastric bypass or vertifally banded gastroplasty". Tammie

Hi Tammie, I have BC/BS HMO of Georgia to....but did you know that it does not just depend on the insurance company you have if the surgery is covered or not?....What I mean is that just because we both have BC/BS HMO of georgia does not mean that we have the same coverages....the difference is that the companies we work for can pick and choose what will and won't be covered - WLS is one of them. Luckily, I have a copy of my company specific policy and BC/BS of GA's policies and WLS is covered if "medically necessary"... I was denied in September, they state that my surgery is "not medically necessary" although I fit all the requirements.... From what I've heard from other BC/BS HMO of GA patients is that you can almost guarantee getting denied the first time...just be ready to fight!!!
