I am scheduled for surgery on Nov 2, I have not been told to quit smoking though I know I should. Doctor's around here make you quit 3 months before surgery. Will I still be o.k. to quit 3 weeks before? What are the risks??? Getting kind of nervous here..comments please....

Nope. You really need to be smoke free three months or longer! You are drastically increasing your chances for infection and pneumonia by not doing so. You also need to be upfront and honest with your surgeon if you have not complied.

I have a friend who used this and he quit withOUT any problems in ONE DAY. He has a very addictive personality and if this can work for him then it should work for everyone. http://www.nosmokeatlanta.com/

HI Shelley, I am having a tough time with the smoking too, and my surgery is Oct.26. My doctor says that if I can just not smoke at least 14 days prior to my surgery, that I will greatly reduce chances of complications. If you can, quit now....I have been pretty much quit for a couple of weeks, but did smoke one yesterday. I know that I can't slip again, or I will be in big trouble when I go into surgery. It's so hard, but we just have to do it. Take care, and good luck. Jenni
