I have my pre-op with Dr Champion on Monday the 27th. Can anyone tell me what my day will be like. Also do you suggest bringing my boyfriend with me? If i do bring him, what will his involvment be?
I had my preop with Dr. Williams in that office. You really do not have to bring anything. They will weigh you and talk with you etc. The main thing you have to bring is your payment. I used my bankcard atm and had a problem because I went over the daily spending limit. You may want to think about that. Then they send you to the hospital to pay the fee there as well as the anesthesiologist. Do not be nervous because Dr. Champion is a wonderful doctor. Blessings to you on your new journey - you may like to keep your boyfriend with you for support. Both my 21 year old son and I had surgery there on May 13th. I lost about 85 lbs. so far and he has lost 94 lbs. Good luck!!!!
It will be a long day, but well worth it. Get to Dr. C's EARLY 8am or so. The reason for that is it appears you get processed through his office in the order that you arrived (only fair). The sooner you are through his office then the sooner you are to the Hospital and through there as well. The Hospital registration desk is closed 12:30- 1:30, so if you get through doctor C and to the hospital early your in great shape.
The day:
DR. C's
1. Take a quick test for an bacteria or enzyme that can cause ulcers (easy)
2. Review the "Bible" from Susan with all of the diet and other information
3. Sign some documents
4. Wait for your turn
5. Pay your fees
6. The nurse will then do a bone scan and weigh you.
7. Final meeting with Doctor Champion (HE IS THE BEST)
Off to Emory Dunwoody
Hospital
1. Sign in a the registration desk (Take a number)
2. WAIT
3. Get called and go to registration, typical copy the Insurance Card stuff. (pay some money)
4. Upstairs to Surgical Services to Anesthesia (Pay some money)
5. Lots of questions from the anesthesia people (Thats good)
6. EKG
7. Chest Xray
I would definitely take someone with you for support and more importantly company.
I had my surgery on 9/14/2004.... GOOD LUCK. The hospital is the best the Nurses are wonderful and they treat you really great. Say hi to Byrd, KK, Karrie and Love for me.
Remember the secret WALK, WALLK, WALK. Go at your own pace, but the secret to getting rid of the gas (Pain) and GOING HOME is walking the loop...
You'll do great
