News on Connie Bouland from her sister
Well, I'm getting to know you guys quite well! Connie wanted me to let you all know what happened to her today.
She woke up with some really bad pain in her lower abdomen. Thinking it was constipation, she stopped by Kroger on her way to work, bought some milk of magnesia, and attempted to continue to work. She didn't make it very far, and stopped at a friend's house to have my dad come get her and take her to the hospital. They tried to make it to Atlanta Medical Center where she had her surgery 3 weeks ago, but traffic was so bad, and she was in such pain that my dad turned around and took her to Rockdale Hospital. After tests for appendicitis and other such things, they believe she has kidney stones. The dye they used for the appendicitis CT scan is prohibiting the doctors from making a complete diagnosis, but they do not believe anything is wrong with her as relates to her bariatric surgery. She is now out of the ER, and in an "observation" room where she will remain until she passes the kidney stone. She is pretty drugged up on painkillers and nausea medicine, but looks like she will be okay. She just has to pass that dang stone!
I am curious if anyone knows if kidney stones can actually be caused by such a drastic change in diet???
You guys keep her in your thoughts and prayers, please! Thanks!
Debbie
I know I passed a kidney stone back some 18 years ago, and I was told it was a calcium deposit.
It was suggested that I lay off heavy calcium rich foods.
Thanks for letting us know!! She had called me earlier in the week and asked about constipation... It NEVER occurred to me that it might be a kidney stone. I know she was worried about a stricture.
Please send her my best!!

Debbie,
Thank you so much for posting. Connie is definately in my thoughts and prayers. Please tell her that I am thinking about her and lifting her up in prayer.
Yes, I believe it can happen b/c of the diet. You could go into the library area and search kidney stones. You may be able to find more info.
Keep us posted.

Hey Debbie thank you for letting us know how Connie is doing. I sure hope she is better soon!
At our support group last night one lady has been having trouble with stones (2nd go around since surgery 9mths out). The specialist she sees told her 40% of their patients are bariatric people and it is caused by not drinking enough water. He also told her do not take Tums.
