OT: Comming to Atlanta
Hi WLS family. I live in Mn, but will be in Atlanta Oct. 2-6th. I will be in the downtown area for a convention at the Georgia World Congress Center. I have never been to Atlanta before and am wondering what sites I should be sure to check out. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks. Also, what will the weather be like? Will it still be shorts weather? Our evenings hasve been in the 40's. Thanks again. Vickie
It'll probably be shorts or light pants during the day, but have a light jacket for night. It's our transition time now, it can be hot one hour then autumn cool the next.
Let's see, Stone Mountain, Cyclorama (at the Zoo, check it out too), CNN Center, World of Coke, Underground (basically an underground mall), take a carriage tour of the downtown area too. Most people don't really hang in downtown Atlanta after the working day is through, it's not the safest place in the world. MLK Memorial is fine, but go before noon so you can get done and out of the Sweet Auburn area before evening. I hate to say it, but there it is.
Quite honestly, there isn't a whole lot to see in downtown Atlanta. You'll probably have more fun at your convention, especially if you have vendors. Now, in Midtown, there's the High Museum of Art--that is definitely worth a trip. At Emory University, there's the Carlos Williams Museum which has mummies and ancient artifacts, very interesting. If you're into amusement parks, there's Six Flags (but it was flooded this week by Ivan so I don't know if they'll have it open by then).

Vickie,
When you come to Atlanta, take a trek to your cities namesake, Duluth, GA!! Just kidding. Actually, Duluth WAS named after your Duluth. It's a small town in the NE Atlanta metro area that takes "pride in old and new."
I hope you have a good time at your convention. The weather should be nice then.
Ann in Duluth - GEORGIA!!!
