RE: GALL BLADDER
HELLO EVERYONE:
I WAS WONDERING WHY IS IT THE GALL BLADDER IS REMOVED AFTER POST-OP? DOES THE PATIENT HAVE GALL BLADDER PROBLEMS BEFORE SURGERY AND THE DOCTOR DOES NOT RECOGNIZE IT? DOES THE HIGH PROTEIN DIET AFTER SURGERY CAUSE THE GALL BLADDER TO ACT UP? I HAVE HEARD THAT THEY CHECK THAT OUT BEFORE SURGERY, AM I WRONG?
THANKS FOR THE INFORMATION
MARY, STILL CHECKING ON DOCTORS
well here is my two cents ....And my mothers two cents LOL LOL if you are over 40 we say take it out no matter what !! cause you are just about goign to have issues ( my mother had her surgery july 14 and then in oct had ot have the GB out and that hurt worse then the stomach surgery) so i think if you have had issues with it you should ask them to take it out while they are in there ...But if things have been fine then i would say leave it ..But i think your risk of haveing issues is grater if you are over 40 ..So that is just soemthing to think about ..I had my surgery April 6 and i am 29 and i have had no issues with the GB ......
Laura
THANKS FOR THE INFOR LAURA:
YOU MUST STAY ON THE SYSTEM 24/7. I HAVE NOT HAD ANY PROBLEMS WITH MY GB AND I AM 53. I HAVE NOT EATEN THAT MUCH FRIED FOODS DURING MY LIFE OR MY DIET IS NOT FULL OF JUNK FOOD. SO I WAS JUST WONDERING IF GB PROBLEMS AFTER SURGERY DUE TO HIGH PROTEIN DIETS,.
THANKS AGAIN
HAVE A NICE LONG WEEKEND AND ENJOY YOURSELF ON FRIDAY

To be honest before surgery i was very sensitve to fried foods ....So i was kinda afraid that after surgery i would have problems ...but to be honest i crave protine now !!! i know it is crazy but i have not been sick off of any type of protine...Granted i have not had anything fried ...Well i have had chicken fingers ...and fries and that went well ...So if no problems before i would think you should be ok !!!
Best of luck ....
And today is a computer day at work so i like to get caught up on all my posts LOL LOL

My understanding is during your massive (hopefully) weight loss after surgery your body filters all the fat loss through your liver which interacts with your gallbladder. The assumption is even if you don't have a history of a high-fat diet, you have a lot of excess body fat or you wouldn't be having WLS. The fat loss (filtering) ends up producing gallstones (VERY painful attacks) and you would require a separate surgery later (possibly within a year) to remove your gallbladder.
Hey, Mary
I think it's more related to rapid weight loss than with a specific diet. After losing 100 pounds several years ago (before WLS), my gall bladder had to be removed after dumping for about six months. It took a while to figure out my problem. My doctor said that there are Five F's for possible gall bladder problems: Fat (I prefer fluffy.), Fertile, Febrile, Fortyish and Females. Some say that Flagellant is another one. For some reason, if you have been fluffy, and lose weight quickly, you seem to be at higher risk. With these other F's, I was doomed! Since experiencing the dumping syndrome, I knew the RNY was for me. Once you dump, you never want to do it again. I wanted and needed that deterrent! Who knows, I may not dump now, but I sure did before.
If you have a family history of gall bladder problems, make sure your surgeon knows this.
Blessings on finding your surgeon!!!
