Waiting for surgery
I have a theory about getting ready pre-op. The more positive you are mentally for this surgery the better off you will be. I spent the month prior to surgery exercising and eating low carb to shrink my liver to make the surgery easier. I also started drinking water, as much as I could stand. I visualized myself going through the surgery, coming out of it, smiling and pain free, then I'd visualize myself as my weight came off, I saw the new me in clothes I wanted to wear, I saw people greeting me in amazement.
I also took a meditational tape into the surgery with me on my Walkman. The anesthesiologist pushed the play button after I was under. Then, when I came out of surgery, I asked them to switch the CD to one I had created to let me know I had made it through surgery. It was a CD of songs I loved - but nothing too rambunctious! Some Beatle songs, some nice mellow tunes by other artists.
I had NO pain after surgery, no nausea, no dumping. I was able to eat anything on my list with no problems. My incisions were completely healed in two weeks, and I had lost 19 pounds in the first two weeks, even though I was a "lightweight" and was only expected to lose between 5 and 10 pounds.
Imagine your doctor telling you you are the best wls patient he/she has ever had. The power of positive suggestion is amazing and it does work!
