Hey Gang! You guys are always so good about calming me down and giving good, sound advice. I have surgery next Tuesday (5-25). I can't seem to stop myself from reading the Memorial page. I know blood clots are a very real danger, however, I guess I thought that I would be "out of the woods" so the speak, a month or so after the surgery. But I'm reading on the memorial page that some of these people breeze through surgery, do all that they are supposed to do (walk, walk, walk) and then go home and two months later and die of a blood clot!!! What's up with that??!!! I know we all could die of a blood clot, any day, before or after surgery. I know there are no absolutes. I know I should stop reading the memorial page. I am not sure what I am expecting from all of you. Maybe I just needed to get this out in the open. Thanks all. Kerry

For all we know.. these people aren't excercising.. may have been at risk for them before.. a number of different reasons. There's 200k members on this site and not very many memorials there.. it'll be fine!

Kerry, I know how you feel, I just witness a young lady die on Sunday who had surgery back in Feb. and she had a blood clot in her leg that went to her heart and she didn't make it. It scares me a little but I know that everybody is different their bodies are different and there is always different cir****tances. I know that God will watch over me and he will watch over you. I'm going to pay ever so close attention to any signs of trouble, anything different that I may feel and say lots of prayers!!!! I feel badly for all those who haven't made it but I'm just gonna keep a positive attitude and focus on all the great things that will come from this surgery and you should too!!!!!! I'll keep you in my thoughts, if you ever just wanna chat e-mail me!!! Carrie

You answered your own question "People die every day from blood clots". Remember a lot of us aren't in the best of health when we have this surgery either. If it's our time to go we will die, but it's more likely that we will live much longer lives by having the surgery. If we don't have it we're a ticking time bomb waiting for some obesity related disease to kill us. Relax, expect the best and quit obsessing about the memorial pages. I have never read them because I don't think it would be good for my mental health. A positive mental attitude will do a lot to get you through surgery and recovery. Best wishes for a complication free surgery and recovery.
