wanting to start support group in Tifton, Ga

Hello to all! I ve recently have had WLS and am looking for a support group. I ve not found any that s close to home. Some other s that have had the surgery and I have discussed starting our own here in Tifton. Can someone please contact me and help me with this? I m not sure how to begin to do the meetings but we are willing to learn! We both would really like to have a group to go to! Thanks so much! Kerri

Hey Kerri, I do know that there is a group in Waycross that meets. I will be attending this group when I move home in a few weeks. My roommate, who is from Tifton, told me that they are performing this surgery at Tift Regional. If this is the case, I am sure there is a support group to go along with it. Hey Joe! Thanks for the email! Tifton no longer does the procedure! They stopped doing it a bit over a year ago! The doctor couldnt afford the malpractice ins! I m a nurse here so thats why I m trying to help out around this area! Waycross is still a bit far too but may help give ideas to get it started! Kerri, I have been wanting to start a support group in Tifton also. I think it would be good to just advertise as an organizational group and meet somewhere. I don't know if we could have doctors or other professionals because it was hard to find them in our area. It would be great just to get together to discuss ideas. Jean

I m going to be contacting the library and hospital in Tifton tomorrow to find out if we can use their facility for the meetings! Figured that would be the best 2 to start with! Mrs. Linda, Hello! I just wanted to let you know that I ve started working on getting us a support group started here in Tifton! I wanted to find out with you what day/time would be good for you! Im hoping to get it to the point to where all will benefit! I did call the hospital today but never got a call back! I plan to call them again tomorrow if not go there! Also was thinking about a Thurs evening or Saturday! Let me know what you think! The surgeon I used also has a pschyologist that performs their support groups! I haven't had surgery yet and am thinking about banding or ds...still researching. I have a teaching background and have been in the military. I can't take a lot of stress but will be happy to help.
