Finally feeling Good!
I had my surgery on 3/22/04 and by the best Dr. ... Dr. Burrowes. I love this man. His bed side maner is matter-of-factly.
But, he has got some fabulous skills as a surgeon!
I had the Fobi Pouch procedure, it is concidered an open procedure but my insision is less than three inches long.
So recovery time is about the same for a lap procedure. The Fobi Pouch is a RNY with a band placed at the end of the new stoma. (stoma is bottom end of your stomach) Well I had some extra swelling after surgery and had to be balloned open a bit, but this procedure is a simple put you to sleep and go done with a scope and then open the site that has swelled shut. Kinda like a heart cath. only with out the seriousness of it all. I am now 8 days after surgery and with meds my heart burn is under control, and I am able to handle a liquid diet well, and starting to feel human again. My story may sound a bit hard, but really it sounds worse that it was. My husband on the other hand, well he had his surgery on 3/8/04, with out one single problem and is sheding his weight and he is my hero.
If you are thinking of doing something, and you know you are ready for a life changing procedure. Then read, read, and read, and then call some surgeons and check the message boards for infomation. Call their offices and ask them question like what procedures the Dr does. How many patients have died, how many were within a week of surgery. If open or LAP procedures, if open how open? How long of a cut does he/she make? This is your body and you have the right to know this information.
May God Bless us all and keep his firey hedge of protection around us as we go though this journey.
