I heard (rumor) that BCBS/HMO of Georgia may stop covering this surgery. I have called the insurance company but they say they have no knowledge of this matter. Has anyone else heard or confirmed this rumor? Any info would be appreciated since I am about to switch my coverage.

I had the same scare with Cigna and what I found out is that some employers are choosing to not have this coverage because of costs I guess. I would check with your employer to see if it's something they aren't going to offer when you go thru open enrollment/renewal.

Thanks for the tip but I have not been telling people about my plans cause it is so personal and I get so embarassed when I speak to "normal" weight people. Do they itemize your health coverage when purchasing a policy for a large group? I know very little about insurance except it seems to never be there when you need it. Thanks Debbie

Oh Debby I am sorry. You don't have to ask your employer call the the insurance company agian. And if you get the same sorry reply ask for a supervisor call back. Let them look up your specific jobs policy # (so have that handy) and ask them if there policy covers the surgery. Then ask what date this policy expires. Then ask them for the coverage information on the new policy. Sometime you have to be so specific it's rediculous. When a job changes the policy is has to be disclosed. You can't be forced to accept a policy that you have no knowlede of. So the lady that you talked to either was stupid or ignorant!!!! Just didn't want to take the real time to help you. If she is persistant about not knowing ask them when the contract goes up for renewal. What you ask the insurance company is not disclosed to your job. Be pushy cuz they sure do push!!! Thank you so much! I have always been afraid if I called and got too specific they would earmark my name as "denied" for future claims cause we know she wants to have the surgery!! Is that silly or what! You are right they are very pushy. Thanks again - Debbie

I just heard that BCBS of Georgia is stopping coverage as of January 2005.... Reliable information from Reliable source.... Sucks for us... I wish medical people would run insurance companies... no Business people!
