Hi Julie: I am a very early post-op (2/3/04), so I can't speak from experience yet, but I wanted to pass along to you what my surgeon told me. Apparently the stress of going under anesthesia, having surgery, & the rapid changes in your diet as a post-op & weight loss can result in hair loss. His estimate was about 40% may experience loss. He said the loss is usually only noticable to you & it will grow back in a few months. The general time frame of when it occurs is between 3 & 8 months post op. They say there is no way to predict who will or wont have problems with this, but my surgeon said it doesn't hurt to try Zinc & Biotin supplements to aide in prevention. Also, it is important to get plenty of protein (be sure to get your shakes down in the beginning), take ALL of your prescribed vitamins, & be sure to get plenty of water (64 oz daily). Again, apparently there is no full-proof way to prevent it, but this is the best advice I know of for now. Good luck with you upcoming surgery, I will keep you in my prayers. If you have any other questions feel free to email me @: [email protected]. God Bless
