paperwork
I am so excited that you decided to go with Dr. Burrowes. I would go ahead and get all documented proof that you need the surgery-ie:seeing specialist for CoMorbidities(Ortho, Cardiology, Pulmonologist), any Dr. directed weight loss(I just got them to fax a document that stated I was a patient, also gettting your PCP to go ahead and write the letter would be fine. I even went as far as getting my pharmacy to print out meds I have been on that were obesity related. As far as testing Dr. Burrowes office will give you a list and then tell you when to have it done. BCBS requires a Psych. Consult first so they will do that first. There is a Psychologist across the street from Dr. B that specializes in Bariatric Surgery. I would use the time to educate yourself regarding the surgery-esp. Fobi Pouch(and why it is so great-though it does cost $4,000 that is not covered by insurance). The Fobi is the best success long term and I wanted to do this once and be assured that it would be a life long change. Go to support groups, esp. Dr. Burrowes(though I haven't made it to one yet-I am a Nurse and also had a friend that referred me to Dr. B-also this website has been my support group. The year will go by fast. And just think about this time next year where you will be I am 8 mon. post op and down 95 lbs. and feel fabulous!!
