We are relocating from AZ....where both my husband and myself as well as our children have been born and raised.  My husband was accetped to pharmacy school in Suwanee for next fall, so we plan to make the move at the beginning of the summer, we'll be there for at least 4 years.  I am coming out for a job interview on April 7th, and providing I get the job (I think I will).....we will be there sometime in June.  I am an RN, and hope to get the job at Northside hospital in Sandy Springs.  I *think* we are going to live somewhere near Norcross, so we can be  sort of half way in between Suwanee and Sandy Springs.......

ANYHOW, I am just now 5 weeks post op, so this move does not come at a very good time (we tried pharmacy schools in AZ, but were not successful).  I need suggestions regarding Dr.'s and programs that are EXCELLENT!  I am early out and am still going to need much guidance and support, I have a LONG way to go on this journey. I am devistated to be leaving my Dr./Program....they have been fabulous for me.  I also need some wonderful support groups to attend.

After poking around this forum for a little while, it is apparent to me that you are VERY good at supporting one another.  I hope that I can be a part of that!!  Thanks so much for "listening" and for any advice you have for me.....

You may want to contact forsyth or emory johns creek beriatric directors and see if they can refer you to a local surgeon. Both hospitals have excellent support programs.

I suggest you contact Lynne Winnie the Coordinator / Director with the Atlanta Bariatric Center at Emory Johns Creek Hospital which is just north of Norcross.

I have been attending their Support Group meetings for the past 18 months and they have been very critical to my progress. My surgeon for my VSG was Paul Macik and I also highly recommend him if you need a DR for follow up.
Welcome to Georgia

Christi,

Welcome to GA.  I can't help you much on your Dr search  (Mine is in Augusta, he is great btw).  Just wanted to say hi.  My Mother lives in Pearce AZ so I am hoping to get there to see her soon, she last saw me at 330 pounds, so I am looking forward to her surprise.

Again Welcome,

Lynne

Christi,

Many people have posted on this board in the past about the fact that most doctors here refuse to accept patients that have been operated on by someone else.  It seems to be an ongoing issue.  The fact that you are so early out suggests that you will need a surgeon for follow up for the time being rather than being followed by a PCP.

You can certainly follow up on the suggestions made by the others.  I would also do the following:

1)  Ask your current surgeon if he/she can assist you in finding a surgeon here who can help you.  Your dr. may know someone here or have other avenues for referral.

2)  The one doctor that I know of that accepts patients from other surgeons is Scott Steinberg, M.D.  He practices out of DeKalb Medical Center in Decatur.....not too far from Norcross. His number is 404-501--7903.

Best to you in your job search, relocation and weight loss journey.  The best thing about your job search is that you are an RN.  Healthcare seems to be the only field where people are not having difficulty finding employment, at least in this area.

Hello,
I am new to the website.  I had gastric plication in tijuana in December.  I am also an RN and live in *******
(near Suwanee).  I am looking for other post surgical friends to help me along.  I have stalled recently and need some support.  that is the only drawback to having surgery so far away.  I was originally 230lb and today was at 189.5.  One of the leading bariatric programs is in Johns Creek/Emory.  I even had a consult but refused to pay the exorbinant cost($18K for lap band).  Any help I can give I would love to do.
