I am confused...
I had acid reflux off and on since my first pregnancy 20 years ago. After I went to the emergency room thinking I was having a heart attack, but found out it was acid reflux, I was able to control it mostly with changes in diet. I didn't have to take much medicine for any extended length of time. I haven't had an acid problem since RNY about 14 months ago. However, during the last week I have had increasing discomfort that seems just like acid reflux. The burning in the chest, nasty taste in mouth, sore throat, coughing during the night...
I thought an RNY pouch didn't have much stomach acid. That's why we must take B12 shots and chewable vitamins.
So why do I feel like I have acid reflux?

Just my opinion... but I think we produce more acid after surgery, especially with the RNY... If memory serves me I think the acid is produced in the top part of the stomach so with your pouch you may be having more acid in a smaller area. I was taking Omeprozole once a day before surgery I now have to take it twice, morning and night.
