Dr. Daly and United insurance approval question

My mother's doctor finally recommended weightloss surgery for her. He recommended Dr. John Daly.
Has anyone used him? I was also wondering if anyone has experience getting coverage with United Health Care and what their approval process is like. I was a self pay in Mexico and used Dr. Aceves. I was thrilled with him but since she has insurance she is going to stay here.
