I will see Dr. macik tomorrow morning for my pre-op appt and then head to the hospital.  What should I expect?  I heard they will put me on an all liquid diet and a strong laxative........is this correct?  Surgery is Wednesday morning.........I can't believe it is almost here!

You will spend most of the time with the nurse.  She will give you a ton of papers that you will need to read a sign.  These mainly cover that you understand the surgery and agree to the post surgery requirements.  You will get you post op diet which for Dr Macik is broken out into days so for N days you are on X phase. These also give you your list of foods that are allowed in each phase.  You will laso recieve your hospital orders that you will take when you pre-registart at the hospital.  Sorry I do not know what Northside does for pre-op but you will have a few last tests and such just to make sure everything is good and Type and Cross match your blood JUST INCASE!.

Your Liquid diet will be the day before surgery, you will get this process from Macik's nurse.  You will be on Clear liquids and start the prep in the afternoon.  I doubt he has changed the prep in 6 weeks so you will take a ducolax in the afternoon and then a few hours later.  The main part is a whole bottle of Miralax in 64oz of non red or orange gatorade or powerade.  At a set time you will start drinking 8oz every 15 minutes, this will get the party started. You will need to drink all of the gatorade.  You will still be allowed clear liquids after you do this.  Remember no drinks aftr midnight.  I took my last drink at 11:59 pm.  Everyone at the hospital laughed that I got the last drink in at the last minute.

Try to have an easy night the night before surgery.  With that much poo remover in your system you won't want to venture far from a bathroom much less home.  Oh yeah have lots of TP ready the day before surgery :)

So happy your date is close.  Just remember you have an awesome surgeon.

You may also meet with the anesthesiolgist who will explain what he/she is going to do pre and during surgery.

They also want to check to see what meds you are on and will tell you which ones to take, not to take on the day of surgery.

The pre op also gives you an opportunity to get unanswered questions answered.

Happy your day is right around the corner.
