Successful Surgery

Surgery went very well. Dr. Houston said it was a textbook surgery. There was some nausea the second and third day, so he ordered a contrast xray, but everything looked fine. The fourth day I was able to get in 44 oz of fluid and 40g of protein, and was so full it felt like I'd gone through a buffet line three times. He kept me an extra day to monitor the hernia repair and make sure I was able to get in adequate fluids.

I was somehow expecting everything to taste different, but so far lemonade tastes like lemonade, tea tastes like tea, broth tastes like broth.... And I can tolerate every temp from ice cold to warm. But plain water is a no go.

I haven't needed any pain meds. And other than mild soreness, seven tiny incisions, and feeling like I overdid it at a buffet after 44 oz of liquids in an 18 hour period, I don't even feel like I had surgery. The swelling has gone down enough now, though, that I can get in at least 64 oz.

Dr. Houston thought everything went so well he opted not to insert a drain or picc line (did I mention how wonderful he is?). I ended  up with a "loose" 40 sleeve and 100 cc. I'm so glad I found out about Dr. Houston, and the waiting turned out to be well worth it. I feel very fortunate and hope things continue on this same path.

Sounds like everything went super smoothly!  Glad you have your surgery behind you and can look toward the future.

I had my VSG surgery on 8/12 and also had no complications at all.
