I have Aetna. I was initially approved for the RNY, and it took 2 weeks. Then I decided to change surgeons and procedures. Aetna approved the DS in 4 days once they had the new paperwork. My surgery will be Aug. 3.
Hopefully you will hear something soon from CIGNA :)

The Duodenal Switch (DS). The best surgery (for me)---I'm so glad my insurance covers it.

I ave CIGNA also. I requested a case manager to watch over the case while it is in review mode. I have completed my 6 months of presurgical weight loss with my PCP. Finished all of the paperwork they required, and everything was faxed over to them last Thursday. I got a call from my case manager yesterday to let me know that they have recived the paperwork (the same day it was sent to them, they received it.) It is now in review and I should have an answer with in the next week.
I am hoping to have the VSG. Cigna recently changed their plan to allow for VSG and DS. Incredible!
Good luck, let me know when you hear from them!

I contacted Cigna this morning to ask about a case manager. The representative informed me that case managers were only assigned to catastrophic situations and case manager were based on whom you were employed with and if they approved a case manager or not. Soooo I guess my employer does not approve them. So once my paper work is submitted, I will just be a frequent caller lol.
I have United Health Care HRA and after everything was sent in to the insurance for approval it took about 1 week for approval. I will have my surgery July 20th. I'm so happy it has been a long process. I only have about 5 weeks to go. I wish you well on your journey.
ps. I see we have the same doctor.

I'm doing well, just trying to figure out what type of protein shakes and vitamins I like. As far as everything going quickly it didn't seems so fast with the diet and all but after I completed everything the approval went a little fast. One thing I have to say is that you have to take charge when you want and need something. I felt like I had to be a little pushy even though I don't like being that way in order for things to go the way that I wanted and needed for them to go and it all worked out. I'm sure that yours will too. I hope that you will hear something very soon.
take care,
Mindy
