Help me... I'm disappointed.
When I moved to Atlanta from Indiana I had to find all new doctors and I thought that I had done a pretty good job. My PCP is fabulous. My OBgyn is fabulous. My dentist is fabulous. My neurologist is fabulous. My new surgeon, on the other hand, has left me a little unhappy.
I had to have a hernia repaired in 07 and I did. Not a year later, I got a hernia above the one that was repaired. I had that one repaired Aug of 09. I have had SEVERE pain since that time in the upper area of where the repair was done. I have seen my surgeon about it on several occasions with SEVERAL different reasons for the pain. The last time I called the office to complain about the pain, I was referred to a pain clinic. So of course, I tried to set that up but the pain clinic said I needed a referral from my doctors office. I called the surgeons office to ask them to refer me and they said my PCP needed to do that. Of course, I called my PCP and they said they would not do that because there had to be a reason for the pain and referred me to another surgeon.
Today was my appointment and I had a good conversation with the new surgeon who SPECIALIZES in abdominal surgeries. The first thing he asked me was if my other surgeon had done a CT scan of my abdomen. (He hadn't) I told him no and he said that was the FIRST thing he wanted to do and that should give him some answers as to why I am having pain.
Needless to say, I am VERY disappointed in my first surgeon. I feel as though I put my life in his hands and he let me down. I am in more pain now than I was before the hernia repair. I am at a loss.
If you were in my shoes, would you call the old surgeon and complain or would you just let it go until such time that the new surgeon finds something wrong? I am a bit upset that it has come to this.

I might would hold off until the new surgeon figures out what the problem is and corrects it. Blowing up at the old surgeon before knowing the cause of the pain might not be productive. If it is found that you have a substantial problem that could have been easily corrected had the old surgeon done what he should have done, I would call and complain to his office and to your insurance. Negligence on his part is an emergency on yours.
Thank you. I go in on Thursday for my CT scan. I am just amazed that this is something that he could have requested MONTHS ago when I first had the pain to figure out if it was an easy fix or not. I feel completely let down in the fact that he just wrote me off.
I just want to know why I hurt so badly. I will have answers hopefully on Friday.

I am not a hernia expert, so unfortunately,
I can't offer any advice, but I do want to send
my prayers and well wishes.

I am so sorry to hear that all of this is going on. Like the first replyer said...wait until the new surgeon has a chance to see what is going on with you...Is this new surgeon someone that will be able to give you follow-up care for your WLS?? I hope so. Please take care of yourself, and let me know if there is anything that I can do for you....hold your hand, etc. etc.
Thanks guys! I am in so much pain today that I had to stop EVERYTHING I was doing and sit down and even STILL I am in pain. I can't wait until Thursday and hope to get answers soon!

Thank you. The new surgeon wasn't sure what he would find in the scan but said that he thought it was another hernia that has developed on one side of where my mesh is. He felt that it could have possibly torn away. He is also checking where my surgeon in Indiana mentioned that I had hernias at but that the surgeon that fixed my hernias here in Ga said there were none. I swear if he blew me off saying there were none there when in fact there are... POO POO is going to hit the fan! I will even be more angry if I find that I now have another problem that he never addressed even though I saw him on several occasions complaining.
Sorry for the rant. I am just so upset over all of this. I have been in pain for so long and all because my stupid surgeon wouldn't bother to take the time to figure out what was wrong. If I find a problem, he is going to get some negative publicity I swear!
