Try contacting vitalady.com. She is very knowledgeable about vitamins.  I get all of mine from her. Even if you don't order from her, she will point you in the right direction.  Your surgeon should have given you a list of what to take??? I did not start vitamins until a couple of weeks out, and initially could only do chewables.

Having said that...

Do you even know if you are supposed to be swallowing pills now?

Did they not tell you what to take?  Maybe I'm mis-assuming, but I can't imagine them doing surgery and not making sure you would have the post op info.

You shouldn't be surfing the web trying to figure out what your nutritional needs are. Thats what your surgeon and nutritionist got paid to do!

Please don't take this the wrong way, as it may come across as being insensitive, but if you don't know something as basic as what vitamins you are supposed to take, you really had no business having  major surgery.

Why are you home one day and completely lost??? That's insane. I am not mad at you. I am pissed at your surgeon and nutritionist for not doing their job!

This is one af a few posts recently from post-ops from Dr. Duncan's office being clueless of what the post op regime is.  Why are they not educating their patients?  This really ****** me off!

As a bariatric patient we need to be well informed about our care and demand our surgeons give us the knowledge and resources to care for ourselves.

Note to pre-ops... Don't let anybody cut on you if they haven't told you how to take care of yourself when you get home. If you don't understand clearly, make sure they communicate effectively in a way that you have a good grasp of what you need to do.  If they can't provide decent follow up care find a better surgeon.

If you don't know what you need to do to care for yourself post op, vitamins, meal plans, wound care, warning signs of complications, amount of walking needed to prevent blood clots, etc.  DON'T HAVE THE SURGERY!  POSTPONE YOUR DATE UNTIL YOU GET THE INFO YOU NEED TO BE A GOOD POST-OP!   This is the bare minimum of what you need to know to stay alive and stay healthy.

I am sorry if this post offends you, but I am truly, truly, angered by this.

Woa.......................LASHELLE Woa..................... first off let me start by saying i was well informed of the vitamins,  and I have asked all the necessary questions about the vitamins I guess I was just seeing what others were taking. They told me in all my preop classes what to take and the names i was just being curious about what everyone else was doing. See I thought this site was to ask questions not to get bashed, now as far as taken offense Not gonna do that, got to many other no nonsense things to worry about than to worry about one persons opinion we all have one of those at this point my just seems to be a lil bigger since i just had surgery just catch me in a few months and maybe it will be a lil smaller.  My surgeon was great and kept me well informed  and being in the health care industry I dont take to kindly about back lashing or SLANDER very kindly I've sat in on to many court cases where this is the issue when one speaks of a  doctor or nurse and not knowing what was exactly said nor done. I am a nurse and well informed. now as far as me being home? I had my laptop with me at the hospital and yes now I am at home  now your first paragraph thanks for the vita lady infor it was great but the rest thank you for that as well i see where u stand and your intitled to your opinion i will be sure to foward this to my surgeon so he will be more informed on your opinion. Thank u once again. P.S. when I spoke of being lost I meant so many people were taking other things I was just curious what other people were doing I have a mind of my own I was just inquiring. But with that beings said maybe this is not the site for me, if just asking a question leads to a dayum lecture. I'd appreciate from this day foward if you would not respond to any of my post. Thank you!!!!

I'd appreciate from this day foward if you would not respond to any of my post. Thank you!!!!

Don't worry about her replying to anything of yours again.  She'll block you after seeing this.

To answer your question at 20 months out I'm still doing the Centrum Chewables.  Started them two weeks post op.

Never, and I mean NEVER, trust a fart!!

In fairness, your original post along with the title did read as if you hadn't been given any or adequate instruction.  Unfortunately that is not unheard of therefore you got a very passionate response from Lashelle which was not directed towards you, so you shouldn't take it that way.

That said, if you did receive instruction follow those to the letter, don't get side tracked by what everyone else is doing.  One thing my NUT told me that I value is "ignore those damn boards"  For the most part I agree.  Take what you need and leave the rest, but NEVER substitute anything for what your medical team told you.

It is never too late to be what you might have been

I think the whole vitamin is confusing..My surgeon wants me to do chewable childrens vitamins and tums.  But, I am going to do chewable Centrum adult.  I take a sublingual b12(1000mcg) that I get at Walmart. You can get b12 sublinguals anywhere.

I am getting samples for a chewable iron and chewable calciums from :
http://www.bariatricadvantage.com/catalog  call the number on the website.

Good luck!

I take two chewable multis..not kids and two calcium with d 3.... make sure it's calcium carbonate....not citrate which tums is...and of course B12 shot once   a month.

So its multi vitamins, calcium carbonate and B12 for us RNYers.

CC

I cant imagine Macik telling you take tums...was it Macik  himself or Honore the nurse?

Dr. Macik's nurse told me the exact same thing last week at my preop.  I had already spoken with Lynne, the bariatric coordinator at Emory Johns Creek about carbonate though.
