Anyone know of any support groups in the Fort Stewart area? I am new. I plan to have surgery as soon as possible. I am leaning toward the sleve, but I'm not sure if that will be the best option because I want to have children. And I'm not sure what added risks having surgery may create!

Hi,I am in the Fort Stewart area. My husband is stationed at Fort Stewart and we live in Hinesville. I had my surgery at Memorial Health in Savannah 11/17.At the bar at the top go under groups and do a search for Hinesville GA. There is meeting times for the support group at Liberty county medical. Right now I am working on going to my 8 required support group meetings at Memorial Health Bariactrics for post-op. I'm not sure about the having children part,we decided to have all our kids before going through the surgery. If you have any questions let me know.

Hi Jill! I hope you don't mind me calling you Jill! :) Anyway thanks for the advice on how to find the group and everything. I only have to really go to a support group once but it is encouraged that we attend often. I am really thankful for finding this onle community! Already it is proving to be sooo helpful and I have only been a member two days! How often do you all have support group meetings in Savannah? Maybe if you don't mind I could carpool with you once in a while down there! I live in Hinesville too! Right off South Main. I am sooo loneely here! My husband is deployed and I really dont have friends here  that I can depend on being here for me, ya know! At any rate don't want to chew your ear off we just met! LOL  TTYL By the way how has everything been going since surgey? You almost a month out!!! Which surgery did you have?

The support group meeting in Savannah are twice a month. If you want I will let you know when I am going to one. You could carpool with me,it would be nice since its such a long boring ride to Savannah. I live in Parish Crossings off of Rye Patch road. My husband deploys next week. If we hit it off you can come over and hang out,I have 2 little girls ages 3 years and our baby is 8 months. My best friend moved in with us to help me with recovering from surgery and to help me out with the girls while my husband is deployed.I have been here a year and a half and haven't been able to make friends.

Things have been going ok since surgery. I had RNY gastric bypass. I feel bad for those around me since I am so moody at times because of the hormone changes. The worst part is I can't pick up my kids for a few more weeks, and I feel bad for my best friend since she practically has to be a mommy to the baby right now. I know it will get better as I recover but I want to take care of my baby. Also,I am so tired all the time, but I know it will pass.

Hi, my name is Tiffany. My husband is stationed at Hunter and we live in Savannah. I go to the support groups at Memorial. I'm not sure of any towards Ft Stewart...but I know a couple of people here that have had or are having WLS (mostly the RNY) and we are talking about getting a group together. The main reason I am doing this surgery (other than my health) is so that I can have children. I have PCOS and have tried for a couple of years with no luck. When I talked to my Dr about the Gastric Bypass he said that it will actually lower your risk for complications with pregnancy. Since being overweight raises your risk for preclampsia (sp?) and gestational diabetes. I don't know about the sleeve though, I would assume that it would be the same...but I would just talk to your dr. Be prepared though, they want you to wait atleast a year after your surgery before you get pregnant, so that you aren't rapidly losing weight. Sorry I don't have more info for you, I'm pretty new to this myself, my surgery is scheduled for 12/22. Merry Christmas to me. lol Anyways, I'd love to keep in touch with you. We're not TOO far away from eachother.

Hi Tiffany! Thanks for responding! Sure thing I would love to keep in touch with you as well! I actually go to school in Savannah at Savannah state University. I have not been diagnosed with PCOS but I most certainly have symptoms. However when test were done and ultrasounds and all, everything checks out! I have been battling with my weight for years on years. And my body just doesnt respond well to being over weight. So I have never really had a normal cycle unless I was taking birth control or some other drug to make me have one. So currently I am seeing a Reproductive Health Specialist as well as a Biatric Surgeon. My operation will be performed at Fort Gordon. Don't ask me why! I havent a clue. That's where they referred me to so thats where I will be going. I actually have a laparoscopic procedure scheduled for January to make sure my tubes aren't blocked. I really doubt it. Because in the past when I lose weight here comes my cycle and vice versa, gain it and there it went! I really dont understand it. I mean there are people that are wayyy bigger than I am and have a butt load of kids that they dont take care of and dont love! UGHHHH I love children and so does my husband! We can't wait to have our own. You will be having surgery on my Anniversary! I'll send you something! That will be nice! I just was at Memorial last week volunteering. I bought gifts to pass out on the children ward! Well ttyl!

I am not sure of dates and times but I know that support meetings used to be held at Wynn Army hospital once or twice a month. Maybe they still offer them.
In Savannah at the JEA building on the third Thursday of each month from 6pm to 7:30pm is a great meeting also.

I work for the City of Hinesville and live in Richmond Hill.  I wish those of us in Hinesville could get together for lunch or something to have a support group of our own.  I too had my surgery at Memorial, but it is so hard to get up there for support group meetings since I don't get off wor****il 6pm.  So there is a support group at Liberty Medical?  I didn't know that.  I know we committ to attend 8 support group meetings when we sign up for surgery, but I am not clear on that.  Do they have to be a Memorial or can they be elsewhere?

Great to see others in this area responding.  After WLS, we are pretty much a community of our own.

I just had a thought.  If three or four of us meet for lunch, think how cheaply we could eat.  We could all share one entree.  HAHA  (Sorry, a little WLS humor.)
