New to Georgia after surgery
Hi Maria,
Unfortunately there is not one in Douglas County. The closest ones are at Kennestone Hospital in Marietta. I don't know if they will accept another surgeons patient. Also, you could try calling Emory Hospital and see if they will follow up for you. (they are in Atlanta). I live in Douglasville. I had my surgery at Emory and I use my primary care doctor for follow up. I gave him a list of blood test that need to be run on a regular basis and so far so good. I have had NO complications.

Most surgeons will not do the 'annual' check up on another doctor's patient....if you find one that does, you have an excellent doctor. The next best thing is to find a WLS friendly PCP that will do the labs etc. In case you were to have an emergency type situation, contact the PCP or go to the nearest hospital that you know of that does bariatric surgery...that way the hospital would probably contact one of the bariatric surgeons that has priviledges at the facility.
When I had my annual check up with Dr Williams earlier this year, Don (LostTxn) went with me. Dr Williams said that he would not take over his post-op care, but if he were to have an emergency type situation, that he would see Don at that point.

Dr. Dennis Smith is wonderful. His office is in Marietta and he's associated with Kennestone Hospital. That's no too far from Douglas County.

.My Dr. is in Atl and another Dr. did my friends wls open my dr. does lapascopic anyway he took her. All she had to do was have her surgery notes transferred he looked them over and accepted her. If you want to contact them the number is 404-881-8020 after all your life will be worth the trip. I hope this helps.
I moved to GA last year and have had similar problems, though I am in Cobb County. However, after attending the OH event last weekend, I found Dr. Menachery and the surgeons at Piedmont Bariatrics will see patients they didn't do surgery on. They are here in Atlanta so I know that's not close to Douglas County, but I thought I'd share. The website is piedmontbariatrics.org
Good luck!
