Roll Call Hello Hello is there any life out there???????
My name is Paige. I live in Macon, GA and teach high school math. I taught college level math for 16 years, but my schedule became too different from my 12 year old son. (almost 14 now). We now attend schools that adjoin and basically have the same hours and holidays. I love it! I am surprised at how much I enjoy working with the high school students. There is a greater sense of family than there was at the college.
I spent most of my life living in South Alabama and moved to Macon 2 1/2 years ago. I also jumped through all of the UHC-HRA hoops and have an RNY scheduled for November 23rd at Emory Johns Creek.
I will definitely try to make it to a meet and greet soon. I need all of the friends and support that I can find. I cannot wait to give my large clothes to someone else and start over on my wardrobe. Unfortunately, I have never liked to shop..especially not try on clothes. All of the walking and standing makes my feet hurt. Hopefully, wait loss will cure that and trying on clothes will be fun for a change.
I was married for 16 years but have been divorced and TOTALLY single for 8 years now. I have a 22 year old daughter who is a nurse in South Alabama. She has a precious son - 1 year old. I also have a son who is almost 14 - as mentioned above.
I am so glad that my doctor's office informed me of OH - it has been very helpful to me as I have been researching and making decisions about surgery. Thank you all!

Paige are there any support groups down thee. People are always asking for a group in Macon. if you hear of one would you please let me know.
BTW I used to live in Macon on Zebulon Rd. I miss Nu Way hotdogs and petit fours from Grants Bakery. Is Grants still open? Also fish from the Fish Dock off of Eisenhower with that special sauce. I never could figure out that sauce.
Hmmm?? Why do all my memories relate to food?

Lashelle,
I thought I would reply as I have lived in Macon for 36 years. Nu Way is probably the one thing I miss the most since the surgery. Probably wouldn't even enjoy it as much but my mind thinks I miss it! Grants closed for a couple of years and the owner tried to retire. I think he just couldn't take retirement and opened back up in a different location behind Fincher's on Gray Hwy if you are familiar with that part of town. Still have the best petit fours and iced cookies in town (not that I've had any for 4 months!!!) I have only eaten at the Fish Dock a few times and it was quite a while before surgery but you are right - the sauce is one of a kind.
I read the posts here daily but don't post very often.
My name is Julie and I had RNY with Dr. William Johnson on 6/1/09. I work in accounting for copier/office product company. I first considered surgery in 2002 when a surgical group in Macon was performing them. I was on the fence, then the practice had some issues and quit offering the surgery and that was my sign that it wasn't for me - at the time.
While going to Graduate School, I met a couple of people that had gone to Atlanta to have surgery and my interest was peaked again. I received my Master's the summer of 2007 and was beginning the approval process in the Fall of 2007. My mom passed away suddenly the week after Thanksgiving of that year leaving me responsible for my disabled sister (my Dad passed away in 2003). My mom was tremendously supportive of my having surgery and was even going to pay until I found out that my insurance covered it. It took about 6 months for life to get to the point that I could move forward with surgery. So I tried from July to November to work with one surgeon's office to get scheduled. I even got insurance approval but they would not even return my calls when the approval came through. Finally after calling and being sent to a voice mail that was full, I decided to switch surgeons. By Feb, I had completed all of Dr. Johnson's pre-requisites and had insurance approval changed to him as surgeon. The only reason I had to wait until June was because of my cousin's schedule- he was coming from California to be here for the surgery.
I have not really had any food-related issues. I've lost 75 pounds since surgery - I lost 50 pounds from my highest recorded weight before the surgery.
As far as support groups, I don't know of any here in town. I would like to be able to take part in the meet & greets and even the Henry County OH group, but with my sister it is difficult. I have someone that stays with her during the day while I work, so its a stretch to pay for someone in the evening as well.

Hello all,
I'm Cheryl and work as a middle school science and language arts teacher of the gifted. I have jumped through all the hoops and am just waiting for my surgery day which is November 16th with Dr. Macik.
I originally tried for the gastric sleeve, but of course insurance would not cover the procedure and went with RNY. Its all good! I can't wait to get the weight off my feet and knees so I can do more hiking and other things we love to do as a family. I have promised myself that I will take diving lessons when I lose 100 pounds.
I have been promising myself I would lose the weight and get my weight under control since I was 18 years old. Back then I said " I'll lose the weight by the time I am 20." Then it was 25, 30 40... It never happened. So this time will be different. By the time I am 50 I WILL be in control!

Hi Lashelle.
What a great post to get people talking!! There are alot of new people here lately and hopefully everyone will start chatting a bit more now!!
As for me I'm Ginger age 40ish (LOL) I will be married for 12 years as of Oct 31.. Yep you got it we got married on Halloween! We had a blast all dressed up in costumes including the jp.
I have two wonderful supportive daughters age 20 and 18 and I can't forget my wonderful grandson age 4 months.
I had RNY with Dr Hart Aug 08 and have lost 130 lbs. I have been very blessed and have had NO complications at all. This was the best thing that has ever happened to me besides my wonderful family and friends. Each day I wake up and thank God for allowing me this opportunity to feel NORMAL and to finally have the energy to function and not think I am going to die at the end of each day.
Oct: This weekend my best bud and I are going to attend a Beth Moore conference in Memphis TN. This is our yearly girlfriend outing and we love every min of it. We will have lots of time to catch up on things since she lives in AL and I in GA we don't get to see each other near as much as we would like. Next weekend I am going to the Apple festival with some OH buddies which should be tons of fun!! The following weekend is my Daughters birthday party and OH meet n greet and the end of the Month is my anniversary. Looking for a cheap place to go for a long weekend.. Any suggestions??
Whew... OCT is crammed full!!!
Nov: I have been ask to be in the fashion show for OH in ATL. I am soo very excited as I view this as a great honor and can not believe that I was ask. Thanks D.
Of course Black Friday shopping is high on my list as well!! SHOPPING!! I JUST LOVE IT!! I even have a new excuse why I have to shop this year.. hence my 4 mo old grandson. I know I know many say hes too young and not to... but I m not sure I will be able to help myself!! I was depressed all weekend because I wanted to go shopping for the Beth Moore event and couldn't cause my payroll had not dropped yet. I went last night and got some new shoes and when I got home my husband looked at me laughing and said your in a better mood, I see you got your fix!! He called me a shop-a- holic.. I guess I never realized but he is right. I get down right in a funk if I can't shop!! LOL
Enough about me... I'm so glad that everyone is opening up and chatting! I welcome each and everyone of you newbies to the OH GA board and encourage you to post post post. Lashelle does a great job trying to keep things going I think we should make her the GA Board Queen!!
Hugs to all and have a great day!!

Hi,
I am a stay at home mom of two little ones. My daughter is almost 3 and my son is 18months. I have UHC HRA through my husband, who is Cobb County teacher.
I am on my 5th month of my required 6 months of diet and support groups. I will be having RNY with Dr. Macik. I will be submitting to UHC the second week of November. November will be a stressful time. I will be trying to get into grad school. I am trying for KSU's Master of Arts in Teacher, Seconday English program. Which would be awesome. It is a 15 month program that at the end I would have my Masters and be certified to teach.
My husband is a football coach.. so the Fall is kind of crazy. My husband's team is usually pretty good, so they have gone to the play-offs for the last 5 years. So, i will be stress out with the games and waiting and waiting for my acceptance letters lol.
I would love to start the new year being a much skinnier and healthier student :)
