Still sore at 3 weeks post-op
Am I alone? I had Laproscopic RNY on 9/9/09 and am still sore. Sore like I was after surgery and a week later, no. But I still have what I consider to be significant pain on my left side and around my navel area on the left side. I was told that this was the most painful area after surgery.
My surgeon told me he had a time with me because I'm small on the inside and a big girl on the outside. So, he had to do a little more tugging and pulling than normal. Could this be why I'm still so sore?
I read the success stories about how people have jumped back into their regular routine and are feeling fine. Well, not me. I can't sleep on either side. My back hurts because that is the only position I can sleep with comfort.
If I drop something in the floor, it stays until someone can get it up because it hurts to bend over that far. I am jacked up!!!!
When can I expect to REALLY be back to normal?
My next appt with the surgeon is on 10/8 so Im hoping he can fill me on on why I'm still so sore.
Thanks OH family!

sorry you're having a hard time. I am 2 months out and I still have moments where it feels like someone karate chopped me in the middle of my stomach. I also have an occasional dull pain where they had a drain in me. I promise it does get better day by day.
When I had my c-section , my doctor told me it can take up to 6 months to completely heal through all the layers of fat, muscle etc...
It took me about a month to sleep comfortably on my side. I fought through the pain to walk, bend, etc because I knew this was the only way I'd get my strength back. You should try to do as much bending, walking, etc as possible and gradually it will get better. The more you move the better and faster you'll heal.
My main concern after the 1st month or so wasn't pain, but lack of energy and an aversion to food and vitamins. I battle with that every day even now. There are days where I would be so happy if I didn't have to go through the process of PREPARING, CUTTING, CHEWING, SWALLOWING. It is just so gross in a weird way.
I wish I could tell you when you'll be back to normal. I am still trying to figure it out for myself. I have concluded my post op "normal" is never going to be the same as my pre-op "normal". I truly don't believe I'll feel the way I did July 27, 2009 ever again. In some ways it's good, and in other ways it's depressing. But this is the "new life" I chose to have, and I am learning to embrace it with a joyful spirit.
I weighed Monday morning on my 2 month surgiversarry and I was down to 266. That is the smallest weight I have recorded since I had my son 17 years ago. I am wearing a size 18-20 pant today as I type. I wore a size 26-28 to the hospital 2 months ago.
Is all the pain and depression, and deprivation, and vitamins worth it????
That is what I am trying very hard every day to determine.

I have found that a hot shower loosens me up and I feel better afterwards but the pain is still there.
I tell you what, if i didnt have to eat, I wouldn't. Everything I fricking smell makes me queezy, My taste buds are off. I am having a hard adjusting to eating smaller bites. I continuously have the sensation of food stuck in my throat all the way down to my new pouch. I burp like a sailor whicg gives me some relief. I guess this is a stage WLS patients go through.
OMG! I have people who call me and ask me what I look like now. I have to politely tell them, THE SAME. I just had surgery 3 weeks ago. I'm not going to be 100lbs lighter overnigt. That drives me crazy.
So far, I've lost 25lbs. For someone who weighed 386 on the day of surgery, I really can't tell a difference. I weighed 361 on 9/25. I know I've a long way to go.
Are you in a support group? If not get in one, or at least try to make the monthly meet n greet. It helps to talk with people who've been through this.
Our next meet n greet will be October 24, I am working on the reservations now. I will post the location soon.
It's interesting to hear everyone's struggles and successes. One of my OH friends had the gastric sleeve and was back to work after 6 days. I couldn't believe it. I guess each person heals differently. Since this was my first major surgery, I assumed I would bounce back quickly. Not the case.
Oh yeah, I dread coughing and sneezing. In the beginning I would lie in pain until it subsided. Now it's gotten better. Still slight pain. I try everything I can not to but when I do, I try to soften them the best I can.
Your next support meeting? Is this an OH function, with your surgeon or with another group? Just curious. I'm definitely interested.
I agree all the differeint info froom surgeons is confusing. I take bits and pieces from each one and do what works for me. If you are struggling, it may be a good idea to strictly follow your surgeon's plan until you stabalize. That way if you're having a negative side effect he won't have to eleminate outside stuff you're doing.
You really do have to keep moving as bad as it feels because this is what will make you heal faster.
