Desperate for some protein powder recommendations!

Okay, so I had my pre-op yesterday, and found out I have to do a full 4 weeks of pre-op diet.  2 weeks of 4-5 protein shakes a day with a "reasonable" lunch, and 2 weeks of 5-6 protein shakes a day.

I went to a nearby health store and got some samples of Spiru-tein, and Oh. My. Gosh. was it disgusting!!!  It was vanilla, and I bought a shaker-type thing, mixed it up, and it was green!  It resembled green, foamy, pond scum.

Please tell me there's a better option?!  I can plug my nose and guzzle something if it's important for me to drink, but after surgery, I won't be able to guzzle, ya know?  I'll have to taste it over and over and over, tiny sip by tiny sip, and truthfully the thought frightens me.

Here's what I'm looking for:

More 'liquid' than thick, shake consistency.
Chocolate is awesome.
Chunks are okay, if they taste good.  No foam.  The thick, bubbly, foamy stuff makes me ill.

Any ideas?  I'd appreciate it so much!  I have to start this diet on Monday, and there were so few samples in the store.  I don't want to buy a huge tub of something I might hate - I can't afford that.

Thank you in advance for any replies!

I don't think that is protein powder you're drinking. I think that is some kind of algae or wheat grass???  I never heard of a GREEN PROTEIN DRINK.  EEW GROSS!

Post op you should have whey protein isolate or a medical grade protein.

Pre-op I just did the Slim Fast Carb Control and eas advantage.  You can grab them at walmart.

You can order sample sets from all the wls protein companies. Just google it... Check with some of your support group friends to see if you can sample a scoop of theirs.  If you can make it to the meet and greet Saturday, I can bring some for you. Let me know if you can make it.

We are also having a protein sampling party at our support group at Henry Medical  October 27.  Keep looking out for posts with more info.

I forgot to respond to your offer...I have no idea what the meet and greet is, but I think we live a long way from each other!  I'm in Washington state, I don't think it shows that on my profile.  Thank you for the offer though!

I took your advice and ordered some samples, they should be here sometime this next week.  :)

EAS is good and I like Atkins.  They have some coffee flavored ones.  Check theworldaccordingtoeggface.com.  She has a whole bunch of protein drink recipes.

good luck.  There aren't many of us that like protein drinks.  Everyone is different.

The EAS ready to drink it decent.  Also Pure Protein which comes ready to drink or as just a powder.  Now, I usually use the GNC brand of protein powder, but I don't know how the protein powder is if you just make it with water or milk.  I doctor it up and make an ice protein latte most mornings.

The good news is, if you buy something from GNC and don't like it...if you save your receipt and return the unused portion, they will usually refund you your money.

Good luck

From what I've heard, if you buy tubs at GNC and don't like it, you can return it and exchange.  Might be worth looking into.

Across the United States, in 2006, twice as many people died from lack of health insurance as died from homicide.

Thank you all for your great ideas!  We used to have a GNC in my town, but they closed a few years ago, and the nearest one is over a hundred miles away.  I've got Wal-Mart, a fitness center, and a health food store.

I'm lucky to have a co-worker who had GBP about 4 years ago, and still uses a lot of protein supplements.  She gave me a sample of Dymatize chocolate mint and I LIKED IT!  I'm so happy.  The best part is, she doesn't like it, and gave me half of a 5 lb tub!  She also gave me a sample of EAS and Atkins ready-to-drink shakes that I'll try this weekend.  And another co-worker gave me a sample of Muscle Milk light (it wasn't bad...kinda strong tasting).

I figured out that as long as it's not foamy, I can drink almost anything.  So I think I'll be okay.  I was just panicking a bit cuz I got such short notice.

The Spiru-Tein was definitely a protein drink, but it's made from soy/peas/rice...and I think it was the peas making it green.  It was vanilla flavor so it threw me off a little.  I found out today I shouldn't be looking to soy for my protein anyway, and to stick to whey...which I believe tastes better.

Anyway, didn't mean to ramble, thank you again for your help!  :)
