LaShelle,
I'm sorry to hear you are having such buyer's remorse over the surgery.  I can't relate to what you are feeling as I haven't had a moment of regret.  But I do agree with CC...call your surgeon's office and relate to them how you are feeling, they HAVE heard it before and get thyself to a therapist.  You'll be okay.  Remember, they did surgery on your stomach & intestines, not your head.

I am going for my 6 week follow-up tomorrow. Hopefully once they get my labs, I can see what's going on and exactly where I am deficient and see if that could be making me tired.

Are you still doing better?  I guess after all you've been through you refuse to have a bad day anymore  huh?

I'm doing great, can't complain.  What's to complain about?  I've lost 80 pounds in the 4 months since surgery which puts me at 150 pounds gone.  I get compliments on a daily basis.  I didn't lack self esteem before the weight loss, but I'm told I'm "glowing" now.  I'm exhausted and usually lack energy, but I felt that way before surgery and it had nothing to do with being overweight or having surgery.

Now, more of the exhaustion comes from getting up at 4:20am to be at the health center by 5am to work out before work.  I've been going no less than 5 days a week.  When I don't go to the gym, I use my Wii Fit at home.

Hopefully, the surgeon will have advice for you when you go for your appointment.  At only 6 weeks out, I highly doubt you are showing deficiencies in vitamins yet (I could be wrong though).  You would really needs a few sets of labs over a period of a few months to see any downward trends.

Hello LaShelle,

Although it was a long time ago, I do remember how it felt....back then we were opened and the recovery was 6 weeks...I was so weak.  Because I was taking in such small amounts of nutrients and still carrying around 400 lbs.  It was exhausting!!!! However, everyday got a little better.  I know you probably don't believe it but it will.

I had RNY so it is different and I know you don't dump but you have other side effects if you eat the wrong things.  (I know they are not so nice either).  But it is very important that you stay on track and get in all your protein (no matter how gross or nauseating it is) I was nausea's for a good 3 months, the smell of any food gagged me...but it will go away.

Think of this way, remember when you had your son....you had to introduce him to new foods....we are the same way....you eat only what is on the list (just like the pediatrician did for your son) and add things when they are on the list one at a time to see what works.

YOU CAN DO THIS!!!! I have heard of people who had complications and after it was all said and done and time went by they would say....I would do it all over in a minute.....

This is the hard part, (know one ever said it was easy) just take one step at a time, and you need to be making yourself walk, I know when I walk it releases endorphins and I feel so much better for it.

As curious cat said, you probably need to talk to someone....there is no shame in that....I talked to someone myself.  Call your ins. co. most have a list of people you can see.  Also, support group is so important...I know you go....don't stop....WE ARE HERE FOR YOU!!! WE DO NOT.....DO NOT......THINK POORLY OF ANYONE WHO IS HAVING A HARD TIME!!!! MOST OF US DID HAVE A HARD TIME!!!  WE ARE HERE TO SUPPORT YOU!!!!!  There is so much going on with us after surgery....and a lot of it is not in the stomach area it is in the head.....It will take time to change the way we think about things...and I'm not just talking about the way we think about food!!!

If you need to talk call me, OK.

I am sending you a big hug....sweetie!

Take care,

Ginger

I didn't feel good until 4 months out.  Up till then I felt okay but nauseated most of the time... acid reflux, everything smelling weird and I was extremely tired and lethargic.

Focus on your vitamins and protein.  I was fanatical about my vitamin intake and I think that's what kept me going... especially the B12.

It will pass.  You just have to hang in there.
