Has Anyone used Emory Bariatrics?
Emory Bariatrics is a Level 1 Center of Excellence and ranked in the top 10 in the country but I have seen no posts or patients who have used any of the surgeons. Having a hard time finding reviews for their docs.
Has anybody used Emory and can shed some light on any of the surgeons?
Especially anyone who had VSG.
I used Emory Baratrics for my RNY! They are awesome! My surgeon is Dr. John Sweeney! He is a caring, great bedside manner, truthful man. I have no problems with anyone at Emory Baratrics. I am also a baratic nurse and they met and exceeded my expectations! Dr. Lin is also a wonderful surgeon. If you will go to Emory hospitals website and go to "Find a Physican" you ge get all their credientals! Dr. Sweeney came to Emory from a Texas Hospital. I found out everything about him from there! He was my choice because I didn't want an open procedure. He is also the director of robotic surgery at Emory! I have several scars on my abdomen from past surgeries and I just knew I would have to be opened for the RNY! GOOD NEWS! I was NOT opened! hOPE THIS HELPS! aDD ME AS A FRIEND!
You can find out information at this website:

Also, if you want to go through Emory Bariatrics, you first have to attend an informational seminar. You should call ASAP to find out when the next one is and sign up - they fill up pretty fast.
Hope this helps. Good luck!

Hi Stacy,
I saw that you had your surgery done at Emory Johns Creek.....I am in the process of jumping thru CIGNA's hoops and my surgeon will (hopefully) be Dr. Ahad Khan. I was wondering if you have heard anything about him? I am not huber impressed with the office, but it could be my anxiety talking.....How are you doing post op?
Terri
My best advice is to stay on top of everything as you work through your insurance requirements. Keep a copy of everything. Also, be patient. I know I probably pestered Dr. Khan's office to death when I was waiting for submission to insurance/approval. That is one of the most difficult times during this whole journey. You've finally decided to go ahead with it, and you're read for it to happen NOW.
If you're having problems with anxiety, don't be afraid to tell your PCP or Dr. Khan. I told my PCP the week leading up to my surgery and she gave me a prescription for ativan. It helped a LOT. I was SO nervous until I was able to start taking the ativan.
I am doing great post-op. I've lost 68 pounds (my ticker includes some lost before surgery) since surgery. I don't have any food intolerances. Sunday I ate 3/4 of a tiny filet mignon! I haven't thrown up once (knock on wood) and have only had naseau a couple of times since surgery - I think from eating one bite too much a few times. It's definitely a learning process.
One good thing about Dr. Khan is...you're cleared for an unrestricted diet (as tolerated, of course, some stuff still won't sit well) at THREE weeks!
Good luck! Please let me know if you have any other questions. I have Aetna, not Cigna, so I might not be able to help with insurance questions, but I'll be glad to try or answer any other questions about the journey.
