Another gastric update

Today I had an upper GI.  That is the one where you have to drink the chalky junk.  They put raspberry crystal light in it which made it much more tasty.  I was afraid I would throw it up all over the xray machine!  I won't know all of the results until I go back to the doc in a few weeks, but the PA doing the test told me I had a lot of reflux, all the way up to my collar bone.  That may have a lot to do with the vomiting.  I am feeling a little encouraged since in the last two days there were two things found which may be the cause of my problems.  I see a dietician next and then back to the doctor.   When I had the DS surgery the surgeon told me my Nissan wrap (the surgery I had 13 years ago for reflux) was partially undone so he took it the rest of the way apart.  I would hate to think that was the cause of all this.  Why didn't he just fix it instead of undoing it!  I am not crazy about him.  That combined with the findings from yesterday give me two possible causes for my problems.  I am ready for any kind of surgery which will fix this.  I continue to appreciate all prayers and poultry.

Well, as far as Dr. Smith possibly making a bad decision there's nothing you can do about it at this point. Best to look forward and see what can be done to get you back functioning.

Hey Jama, what's the latest update on your tests. Did they find the problem? If so, how will they fix it?

Thanks for asking LaShell.  I went to my surgeon on Friday and he said the "geography" of my insdes are like they are suppose to be.  He sent me straight to the hospital for a fluid infusion.  I got three liters.  I am getting a port put in tomorrow so I can be fed intravenously.  He gave me prescriptions of Flagyl, transderm......that patch you wear on a ship to help with sea sicknss, carafate, and something that is suppose to increase the good bacteria.  I am also taking probiotics.  He thinks once I get my nutrition balanced I will be able to eat properly.

How are you doing?  I hope you do not have this problem.  I was afraid I would sabatoge myself by eating wrong things.  I guess I was wrong on that one!

Take care.............jama

I am having a hard time lately, but it pales in comparison to what you've been through.

So are we supposed to be happy your tummy us normal or disapointed???  I was excited they found something wrong with you .

Well I hope and pray this new routine will do the trick..    I did get dehydrated too and had 3 bags of fluid and felt better afterwards. Before that, everything make me want to barf.  I an trying really hard not to get back to that low point, but I feel myself slipping overborad again slowly day by day.

PM Izzy when you get a chance. She had to get the iv therapy too. She said it sucked, but she felt better afterwards.  She will be able to tell you more about it.  Dr. Houston has threatened to put me on the iv protein too, but I am hoping to avoid it at all costs.

So, have they been taking labs on you? Have your labs been coming up as malnourished? Did they miss something. I know you've been going through this forever, so how did he just now decide to do the iv?

Please let me know EVERYTHING because I am having a hard time with the eating and drinking too and I need to know what IO may be in for if I can't get my butt in gear.

All I had today was half a turkey sandwich w/ just half of a slice of bread., half a hot dog (my DS liked hot dogs Sunday, but hates them today, go figure), and a can of tuna.  That's only about 40g.   I know I can't keep it up at this pace. How have you managed to get by so long? What did you do to get your protein in?

Sorry to hear about your reflux and I hope they can fix it.

I have to have an upper GI Thursday and I am terrified.  I have an awful gag reflex for that type of thing.

How much did they make you drinlk?

Let us know how you are doing.
