Hey everyone.
I am a state of georgia employee.  I had RNY in January of 2002.  I need a revision.  My husband's insurance paid for my surgery, but I only have my insurance now.  It is open enrollement for us soon and I am confused about the options.  Someone said that there were policies under shbp that would cover surgery, but I did not know that.  Forever, it was written in that it was excluded period.  Any information that anyone can give me would be much appreciated.  Thanks,
Marsh

Look at Cigna and United HRA(health reimbursement account). I also work for the state of GA. I found Cigna HRA to be great. I was assigned a case manager and although I haven't had surgery yet she called to check on me after I had emergency surgery. She has been helpful with my WLS( that I haven't had yet due to the ES) and very useful for my appendectomy issues. I hope this is helpful.

As of last year's open enrollment, WLS is covered IF you choose the HRA or HDHP plans under United Healthcare or Cigna.  So, you have the option of 4 different plans.  They will only pay for surgery 1 time in your lifetime under the SHBP.  I don't know what they will do for an RNY revision...if memory serves me correctly, I don't remember reading anything about revisions.  You would need to call Cigna or UHC directly to ask about that.  And you have time, open enrollment usually starts the beginning of October.

Where can I get the numbers?  Also, what are the "hoops" you have to jump through?

I wish I could tell you more, but for now it is covered by the high deductible and hra plans only like the other ladies said.

The benefits for 2010 have not been announced yet.  We are all praying they will not drop the wls coverage. With the economy being so bad it is possible they will no longer cover it.  I think more people got wls this year than they expected, and out insurance is self funded.

You should be able to get more info around October or November.
