Any luck with coverage for Lap Band? UHC through Delta

I am very interested in having the lap band procedure done.  I am interested in hearing if anyone has had luck with any coverage through United Healthcare through Delta Airlines?  I called the customer service number and they basically said "No, covered expense for anything weight related".  Just curious if this is something I have to fight or if I should just start saving!

Any input is greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
Jane

I have UHC but it is not through Delta.  It is a PPO.   When I called, they gave me a number for bariatric services and they assigned an RN Case Manager to me.  They have been wonderful to walk me through the process of approval.  My policy covers both Lap Band and RNY.

You need to get a copy of your UHC policy and look at the exculusions section.  Don't trust what the customer service reps tell you. Research it for yourself. You should be able to get a copy from human resources or view it online.

Just because soemone else was approved with UHC doesn't mean you will or will not. Delta determined what your UHC policy will cover,  so each policy  is unique to the employer.

You can also ask your surgeon or pcp insurance rep to help you with it. I know this is a little intimidating, but doing your own research will make all the difference in getting this approved.

You are your best advocate!
