Gyms
Okay, I want to know if anyone has experience with either LA Fitness or Cosmos Fitness (I think Cosmos is in Marietta & Roswell).
I usually do my Wii Fit for 30-45 minutes a day and love it. Some days instead of my Wii, I've been going to the fitness center at Southern Poly (I'm taking classes this semester and it's included in my tuition). Well, I'm not going to Southern Poly next semester (more likely Kennesaw State and it's out of the way to work out in the am if they open early enough), so if I want to continue going to a gym, I might actually have to break down and join a gym. Both these facilities are around the corner from my home and open early enough that I can work out before going to work (if I don't go in the morning before work, I won't go). Cosmos will be about 1/2 the price of LA Fitness...which gives it a big plus. I don't think either require any long term contract. And both have indoor pools (another important thing as I have joint issues related to autoimmune disease).
So, anyone have any experience with either of these facilities? Positive and negative please.

I can't say about either one of them personally, but I have a friend that checked out L.A. Fitness (she was referred there after her gym closed). She said everyone looked like they were all dressed up as if they were in LA. She felt a little out of place.
My daughter-in-law and I have been going to the water aerobics classes at the Cobb Aquatic Center on Macland Road. (Not sure where you live in Marietta.) Just normal people there. We really like it.
Great weight loss by the way. You are doing GREAT!!!

I'm in East Cobb, so not all that close to Macland Road, but I have the Mountain View aquatic center up the road. Unfortunately, every time I look into water aerobic classes at the Cobb facilities, they are NEVER at a convenient time for me. Thanks for the info on LA Fitness...that was kind of what I thought it might be like.
And thanks about the weight loss. I just keep working at it. Was hoping to hit -120 when I went to Weigh****chers today, but didn't quite make it. Next week...

I belong to LA fitness. I thought it was pretty non-threatening (I have a gym phobia). Maybe it depends on the specific location but mine is pretty laid back. Not much posing, just people interested in doing their own thing. And you can watch the racquetball players when you are working on the machines - makes the time go by faster...
If I go to a gym, I'll be going at 5:30am. Before all the soccer mom's arrive dressed to the nine's. It would really be people who are interested in working out.
As far as making the time go by faster and making the whole gym experience less painful? My cardiologist/sleep doc had a GREAT suggestion. Get a portable DVD player (I already had one, just had to order a new battery pack) and pick a TV series. If you pick something that is normally an hour show and watch an episode without commercials, you've just worked out for a good 40-45 minutes (which is about the length of my gym time span).
I've ALWAYS hated exercise. I mean I have a very strong hate for it. So, it's very important for me to find a way to get thru it. I LOVE my Wii Fit, and am usually willing to do it everyday. But I'd like something to change the variety and intensity. For me to make this surgery work well for me, I think it's important. So, I ordered a bathing suit (which arrived Friday) and may try the pool at school on Monday. There is also a Zumba class I enjoy going to on Monday evenings (when I remember about it and have the time).
Thanks for your input!

I go to LA Fitness. I live between the Akers Mill and Austell locations. I really enjoy the classes quite a bit....once you find the right "fit." I noticed most of the people at Akers Mill are really in shape and go in to work out seriously. Austell is a little of everything, though. I know LA Fitness has a one-week free pass available online. They'll try to give you a sales pitch, though. Maybe you can get a pass at both places and go a few times during the hours you intend to go in the future to see what it's like.
Good luck!
Good luck!
Hello,
I was a member for several years at LA Fitness. One thing you get there that Cosmo does not have is all the classes. I loved the body works class. Full body workout with 3 different size weights.
They also have a Latin aerobic and belly dancing class at some of their locations. I love trying different things to get a workout.
Also sometimes your medical insurance company covers part of it at different gyms. Here at the hospital we get a discount at Bally's and a couple other gyms.
Good luck,
Ginger

Thanks. I have to check, but as a Cobb County School employee, I think I get discounts to some gyms. My plan is to get the free week at Cosmos and LA Fitness (they each offer free trial weeks) and go from there.
On a side note, I used the pool for the second time this week. Spent 40 minutes in there...did 8 laps during my time there. Then when I came home, I used the Wii Fit for 20 mins.
I still hate exercise, but this is tolerable.

That is awesome!!! Keep it up. Just so you know...I used to hate exercise too. But when I lost weight it is so much easier to do it now...and I love it! Give it some time!
Did I tell you my surgeon told me if I walked in the pool for 30 minutes it equaled 1 hour on the street? Try it you might like it...you will still sweat but you can splash water on your face....
Hugs,
Ginger
