Sorry you are having trouble :(    My  2 cents are to be patient with the office staff because it is the surgeon who is perfroming the procedure, not the office staff.  Ask them to give them a copy of what they faxed to UHC and then you can tell if it is complete or not.  You only need 2 significant co-morbidities so you will get approved.  Hang in there.  Dr. Johnson's staff have been very nice to me and very thorough.  Maybe someone just had a bad day?

I have UHC (HRA) and it was a very smooth process.  I was assigned a case worked from insurance company that touched base with me periodically.  She is the one that actually CALLED ME before she called the Nurse Coordinator at my surgeons office.  I did have to have 6 months of psychological counseling and 6 months of documented m.d. visits, but once everything was completed it sailed on through only taking a few days to approve.  I was lucky ... my surgeon's coordinator gave me a surgery date of two weeks from approval!!!! Good luck !!!!!

BTW, my RNY is Monday ! Woohoo

I too had to deal with Dr. Harts office. Dr Johnson is doing my surgery.  I also have UHC but I have the HRA. I had 6 months of psych counseling and MD diet to do, Psych eval, upper GI, labs and EKG.  I also had a nurse coordinator at the ins company that took care of my papers. She was my saint throughout all this.  Sadly the Dr's office kept losing all the faxes that I had sent over. Then at the end. My nurse coordinator at UHC gave me a verbal approval prior to sending the written one to the MD's office after which MD's office coordinator proceeded to tell me that my coordinator at UHC had no idea what she was doing and that she coudn't approve me without all the papers. Because the MD's office was so busy losing all my papers they failed to notice that I already sent out all the papers needed for approval.  My ins. co. was always very organized. To wrap it up I felt like I was my own coordinator and I felt like the insurance company and I did all the work and the office was always two steps behind. All in all im glad it's over. My surgery is set for next monday the 6 of july at johns creek. Good luck..

P. S. take matters in to your own hands advocate for yourself. and yes annoy them to heck with your phone calls until they get it right. Hang in there hun I too am an RN and know how the system works. Things can always be expedited quicker.

My big day is july 6th, 2009, finally!!!

Thank you for sharing your story. Initially I wanted Dr. Johnson as my surgeon, but I was able to get an appt faster with Dr. Hart, so Susie ( who I really like btw) sent my info to Dr. Hart's coordinator and that is how I ended up with him instead of Johnson. I actually trust both physicians and don't prefer one over the other...I just tend to think that one coordinator has her stuff together and one does not, or perhaps is still learning ;-) I know they deal with 100's of women and I also know I would totally lose my cool if I had to do that job, however being one of those 100's of women makes me want my stuff kept together all the time! My paperwork had also been lost several times, to the point that it is so very frustrating. I have faxed my sleep study info 3 times before it was sent to the insurance company. Lose it once, ok...lose it twice...fine, but 3 times????? So how long did the process take you? I started this journey about 5 weeks ago....   One side of my wants to annoy the heck out of them, but the other side of me says :don't aggravate too much!" LOL

Basically I just want the right info to be sent to the right person at the insurance company. As of Friday I was told by the coordinator that she was taking care of all of that.

Taking a deep breath now ;-) Congratulations on your surgery date..please keep me posted and I will keep you in my prayers.
