Hello :<)

We *may* be getting short notice orders to Moody AFB here in a  few months...I JUST got approved and have been patiently waiting to start my Pathways here at MAMC in Wa...So....can anyone tell me where the do WLS (specificaly RNY) near Moody ( for military)? Is there a MTF anywhere around besides Eisenhower? Or would I be referred off base, if so any ideas where?
Thanks so much

Lisa

I have no idea if there is any MTF near Moody besides Eisenhower. But,  I am at Ft Gordon and I can tell you that all of Eisenhower's patents are being sent off post until sometimes in the fall. Because the doctor is deployed.  So, my best guess would be that you would be sent to a civilian doctor.  Sorry that I couldn't be more help. Good luck

No Problem Holly :<)  I actually called Eisenhower and they arent even doing RNY right now...and your right the Vibe I'm getting is Off base....that makes me nervous..I mean will that be easier? Will I have to jump though all the hoops that I read others are having to do? Or since I have been approved is that it?

I really was not a bad experience for me. I started out having mine at Eisenhower, and had to switch to civilian. Even tho you are approved to have weight loss surgery at a MTF, you will have to go through approval with a civilian doc. You will have to get your PCM to refer you off post once you get to Moody. Tricare will assign you a surgeon in your area that is preferred by Tricare. You would then need to see the surgeon to get everything going. Once you complete all the Pre-Op requirements, then the surgeon has to put in a letter of medical necessity to Tricare for approval. I had no problems, and was approved in less than 24 hours. If I were you I would try and get as much done where you are now, since #1 it's free at a MTF, and #2 I will make things go faster once you get to your new duty station.

Well hopefully once you get there it will go faster than where you are now. Please feel free to contact me if you have any more questions about the process with a civilian surgeon.
