Hello, I was told during pre-op a camera would be place down my throat to see the inside of my body. One person I spoke to said she was sleep and the other said she had "happy pills". Has anyone had to go through this?

It's called an endoscopy. And it is it's own appointment apart from your actual pre-op (where they will do bloodwork, get your admission papers done for your stay, etc) They will put you in what's called a twilight sedation.  I honestly don't remember the procedure at all even though some people might remember bits of it.  They put the camera down your throat to check for ulcers, etc. because once the biggest part of your stomach is cut, it is what's called  your 'blind stomach' and isn't easily reachable anymore.  So they would need to heal ulcers, etc that might be in there.  They removed a polyp from my throat while they were in there, I assume it was caused from my acid reflux.  You leave with maybe a little bit of a sore throat. Good Luck!

I have had several laporoscopic surgeries and never had that pre-op! Must be a surgeon thing.
Ick..glad mine doesn't require it.

Hello, they say it's not bad you are sort of knocked out. It's called endoscopy. I wasn't for sure of the name. Only certain surgeons require this. They look on the inside of your body to make sure everything is okay. I guess it's like the upper and lower GI. Good luck  with you!!

Dr. Hubson did my surgery and told me that this procedure was going to be done but. Do I remember?  LMAO  No way!!
The only thing I do remember was drinking that awful drink 24 hours later to see if my RNY was leaking!  That was my only problem...
Good Luck you mostly be asleep!!!
