It's called an endoscopy. And it is it's own appointment apart from your actual pre-op (where they will do bloodwork, get your admission papers done for your stay, etc) They will put you in what's called a twilight sedation. I honestly don't remember the procedure at all even though some people might remember bits of it. They put the camera down your throat to check for ulcers, etc. because once the biggest part of your stomach is cut, it is what's called your 'blind stomach' and isn't easily reachable anymore. So they would need to heal ulcers, etc that might be in there. They removed a polyp from my throat while they were in there, I assume it was caused from my acid reflux. You leave with maybe a little bit of a sore throat. Good Luck!
