Trying to get surgery before 'back to school' time
I am in my 4th month of physican supervised weight loss, (lost 8 lbs.) and support groups. Nurse at insurance company calls to check up on me and says to go ahead and make an appointment with surgeon to get the ball rolling. I wish I had gotten 'the ball rolling' a month ago! Now I am having a hard time getting an appoint ment for the initial visit before July! I had wanted to go to Peachtree Bariatriacs, Dr.s Duncan, Hobson and Rashid because they were the surgeons that performed surgery on my Brother and his wife. One may not make an appointment with Peachtree bariatrics without attending an informational seminar, and the next one is not until June 20th. So the next closest Baritric Center of Excellance is Northside Hospital with Dr.s Hart, (Swanee, too far)Daly, Williams and Macik. Macik is the only one who can see me in June, and even then it is not likely that the surgery could be done the second week of July. ARRRGH! If I don't get this worked out by then I will have to wait until Thanksgiving and take a week off of work to recuperate. I just dont like to take days off so close to the beginning of the school year.
Who here has seen Dr. Macik and what can you tell me about him? Would he be a good choice?

Not trying to influence your decision, but I used Dr. Celio Burrowes. He is in the same building as Dr. Duncan,,,,,,,only a few doors down. He is a VERY competent surgeon, Center of Excellence, and has trained under Dr. Fobi who invented the Fobi pouch. He has been doing bariatric surgery for many years and his staff is wonderful!!! I had my initial visit on Jan. 28th and my surgery on March 17th. I am doing great, no complications, and have lost 50 lbs. My surgery was a revision from an old "stomach stapling" 24 years ago (NOT done by Dr. Burrowes). Good luck in your search for the right surgeon,,,,,,,,,,I think I had the BEST!
I fortunatley got to go to the seminar for dr.duncan on the 16th of may and when I attended the seminar I already had met with my pcp, had blood work, and ekg done and had scheduled my nutrionist apt and phyc eval and was way ahead of schedule..lol buttttttt I found out I need a 6 mnth supervised diet for my insurance so I started that officially today and my doc was suppppper nice and has done plenty of these letters and stuff so she knows what she has to say to get me approved :) I was discouraged at first I too was wanting it done this summer but , I already had my nutrionion apt , blood work, ekg and my phyc eval next week and my doc is scheduling me an appt at the sleep center so at least i will have pretty much everything done by the time my 6 mnths is up.
????? When you go to your doc for your supervised diet what does he or she ask you or do at the visit?

does your insurance require you oo loose weight? My doc doesnt do much except weigh me and ask how im feeling what im doing and thats it ,she says My first two visits will be two weeks apart then once a month and the docs just want to see documentation that you have been going and being weighed in and checked and monitored by a doc and that you have symptoms of being over weight and can't loose it one your own........... I just said ok lol I wasn't gonna argue makes it more simple for me and she has done these before and was actually reccomended from someone on this sight who had her and got approved so I am happy hopefully all goes well.
