CIGNA support group requirement

CIGNA requires that you attend a support group for 6 mos prior to surgery.  The support group has be located at a Center of Excellence contracted with CIGNA Healthcare.  There is not a center of excellence within an 80 mile radius of me.  Any ideas how to get around this?  I considered cheating, but I at least wanted to provide information about a "true" support group. 
I would travel the 80 miles for a support group, but I feel like if I need information, I can find it...does that make sense?  I mean I read and have read all about the surgery, read the post on this website and others.  My friends and family have been my support group as well as my PCP.  And its not that I don't think I need a support group, it's just that I don't think I should HAVE to rely  on one that is contracted with CIGNA.  How do I get around this?  Like I said, I am willing to tell a little white lie.

Have you called Cigna?  They told me it just has to be a wls group. Does not need to be at a COE. This is also stated in the guidelines on the website. Call them to make sure.

Hello, What I was told is depending on when you started your supervised diet that the support group will be waived? Call this number....412-747-7477 Ext 42844 and ask for Pam Taylor that's my nurse. She if she tell you the same thing.

I was told the same.  My case manager told me that if I started my paperwork before March 2009, then, they will waive the 6 months support group requirement. I started my 6 months supervised weight management in January 2009 and she told me I did not need to have the support group.  I just had my psych eval (6/17) and I AM WAITING ON WHAT IS NEXT.  Anyone has an idea how long Cigna takes to approve this procedure?
