I am considering switching my PCP because she is slooow. I have been seeing her for 5 years, and she is very kind and thorough, but I need someone who can work with my schedule. Also she is not very experienced with wls patients.

So, do you think someone who does family practice, general practice, internal medicine, etc is best for wls patients.

This is a really tough decision for me. I hate change, especially when it comes to doctors. Once I  get used to a person seeing me naked, I don't want to go through that whole process again. Plus it was hard to find an American female which is my personal preference.  And it seems like nobody is accepting new patients!

i don't have any advice really.  I just kind of picked a doctor a lady at work told me about.  I had just moved to this area and didn't have  a clue about any of the doctors here.  I lucked out I suppose.  Are you finished with your 6 month diet?  Are you going to change before then if not?

Yes, I finished the diet, although she is taking forever to sign off on the clearance letter! That's part of the reason I want to switch.

Personally, I've always gone with an internal medicine doc for my PCP.  If you have any specialists, you may want to ask them for a referral...that way, if the doc isn't accepting new patients, your specialist might be able to get you in.  Also, that way you can be sure the docs have some communication between one another.  I KNOW most of my specialists send updates between each other and my PCP.

Changing docs is always hard.  I hate breaking in new docs.  I got lucky 1 1/2 years ago when I had to change rheumatologists...I managed to get in to see the other doc who was originally on my short list when I moved here 10 years ago, even though officially he was not accepting new patients.  So, I didn't need to break him in.

Good luck!
