Carpooling sounds like a good idea. I wouldn't be able to have others ride with us unless they are light packers lol. DH and I carry a full size suitcase each plus backpacks and sometimes more than that so my truck is always slap full.... we have a sedan. Sometimes I wish I still had an SUV :-( especially now that I have two huge dogs.

I am learning to be a light packer. I have found you don't need half of what you pack.

I definitely do use it all lol. I guess I'm a bit of a diva. I pack two outfits per day (excursions can get messy... and my clothes usually wind up wet) plus 2-4 dinner outfits including formals. I try to keep shoes to a minimum.... I only bring maybe 4-5 pairs (sneakers, a couple of basic heels, 1-2 pair dressy shoes, lido deck shoes, oh and swim shoes for excursions) despite my urge to bring 10. Then there's accessories.... lol I bring a fishing tackle box and wear most of it. I figure out what I'm going to wear with what when I'm packing down to shoes and accessories (see... told ya I'm a crazy planner lol). Can't forget 2 beach towels, snorkel gear (for DIY excursions), now scuba gear (at least some of it, we'll rent some stuff), BYOB booze (but we spend plenty at the bars and dinner so I don't feel guilty about sipping my own), etc.....

We're heavy packers, but if we weren't I'd go NUTS with all the "But what if.....?"

Ok, thanks. I have planned group cruises too w/out a TA and we didn't have any problems.  I am very anal about being organized and making sure every detail is perfect.  If I do it myself I know it will be done the right way.

Having said that, things may be different w/ my health post op, so I'll keep you in mind if we need a TA.

As far as the passport, I was told by NCL the requirements would be changing soon. They keep pushing back the dates, and the rules, so there's no telling what it will be next year.   I think they are putting it off because of the economy, so it won't discourage travel.

Most definetly interested!  I don't always play nice with others so please include costs for a single room when you get prices.

Great idea.  Thanks.

I'll do that, but to give you an idea.  Cruises are priced based on double occupancy, so you'll pay for 2 fares even if it's just one person. You will pay taxes, port charges and gratuity for 1 person.

Example:  if cruise fare is $450 and tax  and port charge is $75 and tips is $10 per day. For a 5 day cruise you would pay:

$900  ($450 x2)  fare
$75 tax and port fees
$50 tips (adjustable)
_______
$1025 total

I'll check to see if they will do anything special for single travelers, but the double occupancy is an industry standard, so don't be offended if they don't.

Me being the cheapo I am would gift the other fare to my mom or a friend, since you have to pay it anyway, and have them  pay their own taxes.

Otherwise, many people cruise alone, and don't seem to mind the double charge. You can always opt for an inside cabin or a lower level on the ship to save and offset the cost.
