I went to a WLS support group recently at Emory Johns Creek.  The guest speaker was Anna Lichtenwalner owner of Fitt Solutions (www.fittsolutions.com) .  She's an exercise physiologist.  And her office is located near Perimeter Mall.

Keep in mind a personal trainer (she said she does personal training too) is someone who visits you a few times a week and motivates you to keep going, make it "burn", etc.  An exercise physiologist will do an initial intake and come up with a "prescription" (for lack of a better term) for a program for you to follow.  You would follow up with her on a monthly basis (a little more/a little less as YOU need it).  Most of her clients are pre and post op WLS patients.

Check out her website.  Give her a call.  She might be what you are looking for?????

YES!  Thank you!  I forgot, I need to first get with an exercise physiologist.  I remember reading that in they many books I read pre-op.  Thanks so much for the information, I'll let you know how it goes!

I have my 1st appointment with her Satuday.  I joked via email I was afraid...
"Please be gentle with me!!! I'm afraid (really, I am!!) "

this is what she typed back :

"you are a trip-can't wait to meet your craziness!  Do not be afraid- I am a mix of sweetness and Dr. Phil, and Jillian- the trainer from the Biggest Loser!"

Oh joy!!!

So, you'll have to post about your experience on Saturday.

I liked her and was considering using her when the time comes.  With my surgery on Wednesday...she won't touch a post-op until 8 weeks out.

I will!  I wasn't prepared for her prices, lol.  I was thinking about the cost of a personal trainer.  Normally, I could not afford.  But, it's either pay now or pay later w/ having to get HBP, diabetes, cholesterol, etc medications (that I don't need now, thank God!!)

I'm guessing she'll assess me, say this is what I need to do, I go to the gym (good thing I do have a membership - Gold's Gym $15/mth) adjust if it's too easy or too hard, etc on the next visit., and so on.

I plan on trying to follow-up with her after.
Good luck on your surgery!!!

HI :)

My husband and I love our personal trainer.  He goes to gyms all over.  PM if you can and I will send you his email address, there is always a chance he could be near you.  We live in Gainesville/Dawsonville but he isnt from around here, not sure where and I know he had a heck of a drive home.  He recently left our gym to help other's get on track and we now have a great team at our place.  It's easy to get intimidated at the gym if you dont know what your doing, at least for me it was alittle overwhelming lol

have a great day!!

What a great question, Lex!

I live in Smyrna too and have a membership at LA Fitness.  I hope to get into personal training again when my surgeon says it's okay.

Another question I have for y'all on this same subject....
My doc's office said I should wait two months to go to a trainer since they work you out vigorously.  I've been walking already.  But I'm not sure how to progress(the timing, etc.) from walking to something medium to something more intense like a personal trainer.
Any advice?  I don't want to rush too quickly...but I don't want to take it too easy either.

(Sorry, Lex, for jumping in on your post...I thought maybe you might want this advice too.)

That's okay Laura!  I know I haven't felt like doing anything too vigorous until recently!  I'm still having a bit of pain around my port, I'm going to see what that's about at my next appointment Thursday so hopefully that will be resolved soon and I can move on with things.  But I really have limited my workouts to walking and biking so far, a little light weights here and there but nothing too strenuous.  I think what I need now is an assessment with an exercise physiologist to see what I can handle that will step up my weight loss since my progress is pretty slow so far.  I also want to be sure I'm retaining and building muscle as I lose and figure the sooner I start the better.

Which LA Fitness do you go to -- the one on the East West connector?  I was going to water aerobics at Cobb Acquatics on Fairground before my surgery and I have GOT to get started again!  Let me know if you have any interest, we could meet, maybe that would get my butt back there.  I LOVED it!  Me and all the blue hairs!
