SHBP UHC question...

I just had my 4th monthly doctor's visit today. I've been slowly losing weight. (Around 2 lbs. per visit). I have a fear that I will be denied because I have not lost significant amounts of weight beforehand. My weight has fluctuate over the years and I'm also worried that I will have a weight gain (of 2 or 3lbs) during one of my final 2 doctor's visits. I guess I'm worried about what exactly goes into the doctor's 6 month supervised visit.

Thanks for helping a newbie out! I've been lurking for months now.

As far as I know there are no requirements as to how much weight you have to lose in the 6 months.  I gained and lost and ended up with about an 11 pound loss that is staying steady right now.  The nurse never told me there was a certain amount, I just had to do the six months.  Have you contacted Optium Health and been assigned a bariatric nurse?  Have you started the 6 months of counseling/support meetings?  Good luck.  I hope to be finished with everything and having surgery in July or August.

I have a nurse, although I haven't heard from her since early in the process. I've completed 3 months of the support groups, have had the psych eval. Good luck to you as well. Thanks.

Has anyone else had them change nurses on them.  I am on my third and I can't get her to call me back.  I am going to try to call nurse #2 and try and get things answered.  I have submitted everything to Dr. Macik to submit to OPTUM.  I have 4 months down on the 6 months of counseling.  All else is finished.  Trying to get approved for a June date.

I've had the same nurse since January.  I have had my behavior coach changed and he is hard to get in touch with.  Good luck!!

Don't feel bad I have lost only 2 pounds total in 4 months, but I am doing it purposely. My BMI is 40, so if I do lose weight I won't qualify anyway. I am hoping like you that it doesn't matter how much you lose just the fact that you went through the process. I am on month 4 of the weight loss and the support group. Hope to be finished in June.

I don't think it matters. I intentionally didn't lose because I have a borderline BMI and if I lose to much I won't qualify for DS.

Now that I have met w/ my surgeon and the start weight has been "locked in, I am trying soooo hard to lose , but it has been hard.

The surgery is safer if you can lose as much as possible pre-op.

I am borderline BMI as well so I don't want to drop too much weight as well. It's hard just maintaining weight, losing weight is really hard.  I'm rooting for you! My primary care physician suggested I start walking, so I guess I'll bust out my pedometer.

walking is good. Plus it will strengthen your heart muscle and a strong heart is good for surgery.  Also will help w/ circulation. Not sure if this would decrease blood clots, but I guess it won't hurt.
