New to OH (a virgin!) Need help

Hello,

I'm new to the site and am looking for a surgeon. I can say that Dr. M. Williams does not take Aetna - I'd have to see Dr. Khan (but that would be out of network).

I have Aetna Choice POS II Open Access (I had UHC PPO).

Anyone have any suggestions... I think I read on Dr. William Johnson, but's in Suwannee, and though I work in Norcross, I live in Douglasville. Is the distance something that shouls not be a factor?  I think I saw Dr. Champion on my coverage.

I need a doc that's cool, confident, doesn't have a God complex, straight, but has compassion and a good bed side manner.  I do not need a corpse cutting on me.

Also, I think I'd rather a surgeon that can do the procedure (I'm thinking RNY) laprscopically.  I don't do well w/ scars.

Please help!!! Thanks!

Not to get into any heated debate about this with anyone...I will only sa RESEARCH, RESEARCH, RESEARCH any surgeon you are thinking of using!!!!!

We have some excellent surgeon's here in the metro Atlanta area.  And we have some I wouldn't let touch my worst enemy (if I could prevent it).

I would recommend Dr Johnson to anyone.  I am very happy with my decision to use him and Emory John's Creek hospital is FABULOUS.  If you have any questions, please feel free to send me a PM.

Hi Welcome,

Dr.Hart/Johnson and dr. macik take Aetna.... those are some of the best around... check them out.

And don't look for a surgeons "personality" but rather sucess rate... the nurses are their for nursing... the surgeon for skill.....

Thank you all so very much!! I will try to get a consult w/ Dr. Johnson... Like I said, it's just far, but considering I see review from people in AL & TN about him... Douglasville is still local....

I have the same exact insurance as you. I used Dr. Lin at Emory. His office is at Crawford Long in Atlanta. I have been very happy with him and his staff. My sister is a surgery resident and has worked with Dr. Lin in the operating room and in the clinic. She highly recommended him. I work in the healthcare field, so I know that drs can act one way in front of their patients and a completely different way 'behind the scenes' with the people that work for/with them. It meant a lot  to me that she respected him so highly.

Jayna,

How hard was it to get approval? Were there a lot of hoops to jump through?

My surgeon is Dr. Celio O. Burrowes,,,,,,,,,he is awesome!!  Very  professional and has excellent credentials.  He trained under Dr. Fobi in CA many years ago.  His office staff is great too and he is located in the Professional building near Atlanta Medical Center.  He is a board certified Bariatric surgeon and his office is a Center of Excellance.

Good luck to you!

That is unfortunate that Dr. Williams isn't available. He was my surgeon and absolutely wonderful.

I live in Powder Springs and yes I drove all the way out that to visit with him.  Distance shouldnt matter because you will only see your surgeon on a few check up periods. So, it is easy to fit in your schedule. That shouldnt be a big factor.

You can probably check your provider directory with Aetna to see who is available.

Thanks, all!

Dr. Burrowes isn't on my insurance.

I have signed up for 3 seminars so far  - Dr. Johnson, Dr. Steinberg, & Dr. Macik.  My new PCP wants me to check out Dr. Dennis Smith - said he's the best as far as he's concerned.

Any info/scoop on these?  Thanks!
